“Humilliation”

Wiesbaden Hot Springs Spa & Lodgings

I am a smoker so my husband requested a smoking room, they told us that there was no smoking in the motel but their were ashtrays on the patio. No problem I dont mind smoking outside. We checked in, put all of our things in the "Sun Room" (@$179.00 a night, with no bathtub and sheer curtains and a small 13inch TV.) I walked outside to smoke a cigarette, no where near the entrance, and when I walked back in to the Motel the clerk asked me if when we made the reservation anyone asked if I was a smoker. We said no, why? She said that she was going to have to ask us to leave because "Smokers" are not allowed to stay at all! We were mortified! If I had known that there were no smokers not smoking allowed I never would have made the reservation there to begin with. They really need to make this clear so that no one else has to suffer the humilliation that I did. I suggest that in their advertising they make this clear. They also do not allow pets. Does this really mean pet owners?!

we have stayed at the wiesbaden approximately once a year from 1981 through the later 1990's. with a few exceptions ( * ), i'll try to focus on the usual experience... (1) the into-the-mountain (underground) cave/spa is, really, the 'jewell' of this place. there is a 'hot tub' (maybe 108 or hotter!) but all one needs to do is merely hang out nearby for the sauna experience. (2) the outdoor pool is also pretty neat -- usually not the crowds of the main outdoor hot ouray pool -- but being in hot water looking at the icy peaks all around (or being in it at night while heavy snow falls) is a pleasant experience. summer's ain't bad, too. (3) rooms are small, but pleasant. (4) other guests are USUALLY of similar inclination -- don't be too loud nor obnoxious, etc. (5) EVERYTHING in ouray is in easy walking distance. a few good restaurants nearby. we used to frequent the "bon ton" .

we haven't been there in a while, so perhaps some things have changed (e.g., still a bonton? if not, there's bound to be good restaurants/cafes). it is a pleasant change to be able to park your car and leave it. in a sense, this is an 'all inclusive' resort -- if you consider the 3 or 4 or .. block walk to eat as still being in the resort.

We have stayed several times at the Wiesbaden and love the spa. On our anniversary we booked the Sunroom. We would not request this room in the future. For a room in this price category I would expect additional amenities. We had to ask for Shampoo and were told we should have brought our own! We asked about a coffee maker and were told they were available but not allowed in this particular room. Coffee was served in the lobby. We will bring our own shampoo next time and stay in one of the rooms in the main lodge. The spa is very special.

This is the most fantastic place in the world. Everything about our stay at the WIESBADEN was fantastic. I only wish we could have stayed longer. You won't go wrong if you stay here.

Since there wasn't that many reviews on this place, I really didn't know what to expect. But because the Box Canyon was booked out the night we were in Ouray, I choose the Wiesbaden and I'm certainly glad I did. We had the Hill Cottage which was kind of rustic with a full kitchen but very quiet with a porch outside to sit and enjoy the mountains. The vapor caves are a must, these are right under the main building of the Wiesbaden. Also the outside pool is wonderful, because it is all natural mineral water they refill it a couple of times a week which takes about an hour to do. I had a wonderful Aveda Mud Wrap for my treatment and the treatment room was a rock cave with candles all over. My husband (who isn't into Spas) loved this place, and said it was the best stay out of our two week visit to the Southwest. The town of Ouray is quaint with lots of restaurants and souvenir shops and mountain views to die for.
