“Lovely and Very Accomodating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2008

Located in a very lovely town with great restaurants, the Spangler House is a gem. The innkeepers could not be more accomodating, helpful and friendly. The breakfasts were great. Special accomodations were made for our schedule, ie., early morning breakfast and change in dates. Great recommendation from our hosts for our day trip to Telluride. Park in Mountain View and take the gondola. Beautiful ride, breathtaking views and free!

Our weekend at the Spangler House was a delight. Steve and Jill were warm and attentive without compromising the quiet weekend we wanted.
The inviting aroma of fresh muffins baking wafted into our room the first morning and as promised, breakfast was truly a highlight of both days.
Steve was able to answer all of our questions about area attractions and clearly enjoyed interacting with the guests while cooking and delivering breakfast to the table. Others guests who shared breakfast with us were repeat visitors - for obvious reasons.
While we are not really "dog people" we enjoyed the well behaved Jack Russel Terriers.
Would we go back to the Spangler House? You bet!

We stayed for one night at the Spangler House and took two of their rooms (the Angel Creek and the Cascade Creek) for myself and my husband and my parents. The owners are great, friendly and have 2 cute little dogs. My parents room, the Cascade, was on the upper floor and very cute and clean. They said it was pretty quiet and had a comfortable bed. Our bottom floor room was a little noisy which we expected (lots of foot traffic) so we had to wake up earlier than what we would normally. Our room was clean and comfortable and although it's the smallest room, it was fine for what we needed. Breakfast was good and there was plenty of it! They have an area with fruit, snacks, and drinks that guests can access whenever they want during the day. We didn't use the hot tub but it looked very inviting. Overall, we'd definitely stay here again if it were for one or two nights. Any longer and we'd want something more private. And we'd probably not choose a room on the bottom floor. I would recommend this place to couples and older travelers. Since the town is so small, everything is within walking distance and the views are amazing. Box Canyon Falls is a must if you are visiting Ouray!

  • Liked — Very clean rooms, great breakfast!
  • Disliked — A little too noisy to consider for an extended stay.

Last May, we spent 8 days in southwest CO. Our stay at the Spangler house (3 days) was the highlight of our trip.
Ouray was a wonderful place to visit, and this B&B provided
a terrific home base to start and finish each day.
We look forward to visiting the Spangler House again.
We stayed in the Dr. Spangler Suite. The bed was very comfortable
and the bathroom is spotless. It also had a small sitting area
which turned out to be a perfect reading area while looking out
at the falling snow. A great location in Ouray, close to everything.
The breakfasts were delicious and a great way to start each day.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Spangler House.

This is where to stay in Ouray-Ridgeway. We were in town for the weekend and looked at all places to stay. We decided on the Spangler house after many recommendations. The food is excellent and we found the B&B to be a great value! The owners are extremely nice and have 2 friendly dogs that are well trained (not in the way at all). The hot tub on the deck is awesome and way better than any hotel tub. You can use the hot tub as late as you want unlike the hotels, and the view is incredible. The beds were comfortable and rooms were private. Free speedy WIFI. Don't forget discounted hot springs passes!

This is a cozy bed and breakfast in a cozy and astonishingly beautiful Colorado town. Located in the middle of tiny Ouray, about an hour from expensive Telluride, this place is a real find: immaculate yet very laid back, surrounded by hiking trails, hot springs and an ice climbing park, and quite affordable. The brief introductory tour reveals an entire first floor of the house where guests are welcome to relax as if it were their own, with a fridge full of waters and juices, as well as baskets with fruits and other snacks, for whenever you get the munchies.
Our room was small but lovely with a pretty iron bed with a beautiful quilt. There's tea, coffee and cocoa in the room and the towels are fluffy. The hot tub on the back porch was a perfect temperature, with towels at the ready inside - we didn't have time for the hot springs, and the tub is so convenient.
Our breakfast consisted of fresh home-made apple cake, fresh fruit and yogurt, juices and a great selection of herbal teas plus coffee, and an egg, cheese and chive bake with bacon on the side. All was delicious and I can only imagine what awaits us at our next stay when we have more time.
Steven and Jill, the hosts, are gracious and friendly. I can't wait to go back.

We hadn't actually made reservations at the Spangler House, but were referred there when our first choice inn cancelled our reservation at the last minute. What a pleasant surprise the Spangler House turned out to be!! This modest looking house provides a welcoming atmosphere with friendly hosts and great food. We didn't need lunch and the handy snacks provided were enough to hold us over while we hiked and explored the area. Our room was comfortable, clean and very quiet. We felt right at home here and look forward to returning to Ouray and the Spangler House.
