I found the room cozy, nicely decorated with aspen furniture, very comfortable bed, nice linens and towels, very clean. Hairdryer, ironing board and iron were provided upon request. Excellent free coffee in the lobby. The new owners (been there a year) were friendly and accomodating and provided useful info about the area.

It was nice to have the store available on the property, as well as a hot tub and jeep rentals (with thorough instruction prior to rental). I enjoyed the sound of running water with the river ( and river walk to town) right behind the motel, beautiful views of the mountains all around. Great value and price.

We were planning to stay at one of the larger properties, after driving through town we passed by the Riverside Inn and decided to take a look. Stayed 2 nights w/ a jeep rental. The room was comfortable and clean, direct TV, and the staff was always helpful. They offer hot spring vouchers, and room discounts with a Jeep rental. The river is walking distance from the Inn or right behind the cabins. The Jeep rental staff is extremely knowledgeable about the terrain and their Rubicon Jeeps with an additional 2" of lift are capable of taking you anywhere your driving skills and courage want to go. Bring the Jeep back, wash it and gas it up all on site then walk the 20 ft to your clean, comfortable room. A great convenience for the weary traveler. No frills or chocolates on your pillow, just a very nice, clean place to rest. Big thumbs up!!

“NOT a quiet mountain retreat!”

This hotel and cabins are right next to the main highway through Ouray. And are directly behind a very busy gas station and Jeep rental place. The cabins are about 8 feet apart from each other.

If you're looking for a peaceful, quiet mountain cabin, don't stay here. You will hear loud motorcycles rumbling by at all hours of the day and night, kids screaming, diesel trucks idling, etc. etc.

However, if you're just looking for a half-decent, mostly clean place to crash after spending the day on the trails, you'll be OK here. The cabins are beside the stream and you can hear the water, even with the motorcycle noise.

“A Great Cabin by the River”

We stayed in cabin #6 for six nights in July 2008. The cabin was clean, had electric outlets, functional heater, big windows, a ceiling fan, great views, a bench and handy built-in tables. The covered porch had a porch swing and a ski-lodge style bench. Way cool! We were able to barbeque in front of our cabin, relax on the porch and enjoy the burgers on the porch or behind the cabin on the bank of the Uncompahgre River. Nights were quiet, even with the windows open - all we could hear was the rushing river -- and the surroundings were beautiful. The on-site owners were always helpful and cheerful. When we had a problem with an overhead light that was too dim for reading, they immediately came to our rescue with a more powerful bulb. We are usually RVers and love the camping experience. This cabin on the river was a great alternative. We'd stay with these folks again in a heartbeat.

    • Liked — A comfortable cabin along the riverbank while still near town; also the price.
    • Disliked — After a day of trail-riding in our Jeep, it cost about $2.25 to put air in our tires @ $0.75 for a few minutes air. We believe in free air!

“Don't stay here unless you like bad management”

Riverside Inn and Cabins

Apr 9, 2008

The first time I stayed here was in November of 2007. The heater did not work. When I mentioned it to the owner, she apologized and explained they were new owners and trying to get everything in working order.

I decided to give them another chance and arrived there on Saturday, March 29th. They immediately charged me up front for 6 nights which I thought was unusual for a hotel. Then began the nightmare into sleeplessness.

I thought the lumpy pillows were going to be the problem, but it turned into much more. The walls were so thin, I woke up with a fright when I heard a man in my room at 6:30 am. I realized it was the people next door. I could even hear the refrigerator door opening and closing. I thought I'd try to put up with it and dealt with the early wake-up conversation all week.

The conversation was nothing compared to the construction noises of sawing and banging that also woke me up. There was construction every morning very early beginning around 7am.

The maid service was lacking. On Sunday, I did not receive maid service. The remainder of the week only my bed was made and trash emptied. I had a pile of dirt that sat in the middle of my bathroom floor for the entire stay. One day I did not put the sign on my bed to recycle the sheets, so my sheet would be changed. When I came back, the maid had put the sign on my bed and not changed the sheets.

By Wednesday, I'd had enough when construction began at 6am. I complained about the early wake-ups and asked that the pile of dirt be removed along with the sink cleaned and bath cleaned. The female owner Linda acted surprised I didn't have maid service. Her husband said I needed to understand they were on a deadline for the construction. I said I understood and he needed to understand I was on vacation and 6am construction was not acceptable.

They told me I'd get my room cleaned. Again only the bed was made and the trash emptied on Wednesday and Thursday. Not only did I not get maid service on Thursday, I discovered a used cup of coffee left in the room by the maid. That was more than I could stand and I went to see the management to check out early and get a refund for the last night. They were not in. I told their employee to please get in touch with them and have them call me. I also sent them an email and they never responded or refunded my money.

Obviously, customer service and good word of mouth is the least of their concerns.
