I loved this place: I stayed longer than I had intended because the staff were so kind and helpful and it was so comfortable. I have recommended it to others, who have also had a positive experience there.
This is a small lodge, not a 2,000 room hotel in a major metropolitan area - the guest who wants 24 hour coverage at a front desk or an up-to-the-instant cancellation policy should not be looking for accomodation in a mountain town.
Regarding breakfast - every morning I was there, there was waffle batter and a waffle maker, among many other breakfast alternatives. Eating a hot waffle with fresh fruit on it overlooking rushing mountain creek every morning was one of my favorite things about the Inn, and part of what will draw me back again. The other thing that will draw me back again is the genuine warmth and consideration shown by the staff. This is a special place. It is cozy, and intimate, and totally Colorado: perfect for a traveller who does not want the same old hotel experience they have had a hundred times before.

The room itself was okay and reasonably clean. When I tried to light the gas fireplace the pilot was out. A simple lighter in the room and I would have lit it myself. Went down to the front desk and there was a sign saying the staff was not available from 10 pm - 7 am. I filled out their online survey and would have been okay with a simply apology. However I was accused of not listening to the desk clerk when we checked in and other similiar comments. Essentially that it was all the customer's fault. I also mentioned that I thought we got food poisening from the morning breakfast and was told that I should have reported that before leaving. Umm those results usually happen a number of hours later, like well after we left. Anyway good luck if you stay here. One other lovely feature is the microwave placed right above the toilet. Yum!!!!

We had booked some weekend nights here to stay near Eldora. When the time came to go, my husband wasn't feeling well, so he called to cancel. He figured it would be fine, since it was in the morning--wrong! This hotel requires more than 2 days' notice. The manager was very rude, said they were charging for the first night, and then HUNG UP on him. We complained to corporate about the rudeness. Then we talked to the hotel again, and were told (by another person) that they would charge the lowest discount corporate rate instead of the rate we were going to have paid. When we got the credit card bill they charged us the higher rate anyway. We talked to the hotel, with no result. We talked to corporate, who said that the manager had told them we had hung up on the manager--a lie! Anyway, do yourself a favor and stay somewhere where they have some shred of integrity. Not here, in other words.

We stayed 2 nights. Never had maid service except to make the bed. Worst continental breakfast ever had. Fruit was dried up, bread and rolls stale. Had to keep asking for coffee. Even had to get person in charge up to start breakfast. When we checked out person in charge was very rude and nasty. Had our reservations all mixed up. Blamed AAA and check in person, of course. Then the credit card machine wouldn't work and it went down hill from there. He threw things around and got very belligerent. Like it was our fault the machine wouldn't work?! Too bad, as it was a nice motel and it was clean. Nice quaint little town with very good food. Especially the barbecue place. Would NOT recommend staying here. I know I never will!!

  • Liked — The location was good. Nice quaint little town. Food was good.
  • Disliked — The way we were treated when we checked out. Also no maid service.

Above average Best Western has nice log cabin feel. Book direct with the hotel for best rates. Stayed in downstairs room which was nicely sized with small gas stove on a timer. Coffe maker, frig, microwave, blowdryer, and iron is in room. Washer/dryer down the hall. Lazy Boy recliners in room are comfy for late night tv watching. Windows open during temperate March days, fire in stove was cozy during the evenings. Nothing fancy, but everything is clean and very functional. The outdoor facilities: jacuzzi and outdoor porch overlooking a creek were not well tended (probably due to our visit during low season) and we did not use those facilities. The front lobby has tables and a comfortable louge area with baby grand piano, leather sofa and large gas fireplace. There is also an upstairs lounge similarly equipped. Games and puzzles are available to guests. The breakfast was nothing special, but consistently good...there is a waffle machine, which was nice for the kids and the breakfast room is large and airy feeling. The business center is a tiny desk no wider than the computer keyboard and has one computer. Still, it was never a problem to get online and was a creative solution for offering computer access to guests. If you are there during ski season, discount lift tickets ($40 & $27/kids) can be purchsed at the desk. Eldora ski mountain rents downhill skis & snowboards, but it is much less costly to rent from Christi Sports on your way through Boulder.

The town itself is walker friendly and the hotel sits smack dab in the middle of everything. The population is very eclectic and a little bohemic, but very friendly and welcoming. There are crystal healers, yoga shops, glass artisans, antique stores and thrift shops. Great pizza across from the hotel in the strip shopping center, the noodle shop is also fabulous, the coffee house in an old train cab is wi-fi friendly and fun, the grocery store also across the street is well stocked for anything you need. I would not recommend the German restaurant as it was overpriced for the quality of the meals served, although the service was very good.

NOTE: Cell phones don't function in Nederland except up the hill at the community center parking lot.

  • Liked — Comfortable, convienient and functional
  • Disliked — Wish the jacuzzi, outdoor patio was better tended to
