“Very nice place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2012

This Econo Lodge is on the the highway to Black Canyon NP, which puts it a little out of town. The rooms are nice and clean, and the staff is friendly. The rooms are quiet and the parking is ample. The town is small, so driving around is easy if you want choices for meals. Stay here with confidence.

Booked a king suite for 2 nights and ask for grd floor, request was granted. Check-in was quick and staff very nice and friendly. My room was very large with a whirlpool tub in 1 corner.Furniture consisted of desk and chair , full couch , 2 arm chairs , recliner , micro / fridge worked well.
Room included 2 A/c units that were very quiet. Flat panel TV was also nice.
This isn't a new hotel but is well maintained. A lot of room for $90 per night !
Location is at the far edge of town, East end. Not much going on at this end. All the new eatery's are at the south end. At least this is a small town

Room Tip: RM 120 was the largest rm in hotel according to site map

Our van broke down coming of the Rockies. We coasted into the econo lodge where we expected to stay a few days while our transmission was being fixed. In total we ended up being stranded for five days. The hotel not only put us up for five days but also pointed us to anything we needed and we were never disappointed. The indoor pool was perfect for mid day hot. The rate was better and hotel way cleaner than anything we stayed in for the last two weeks on the road. Hot breakfast was included. The housekeeper was exceptionally kind as was the front desk. We thank you for making the best of our situation. Highly recommend.

I researched the hotels in the area before booking and went with the Econo Lodge based on the reviews and the price. I thought they offered the best value for the money.

PROS: We arrived 2 hours early and our room was ready. Our room was on the 2nd floor, a non-smoking/2 queen room, and it was clean and comfortable. The beds were comfortable. The room had a small fridge and the beds had lots of pillows. This location provides parking for RVs and trailers. This location also allows pets, but we didn't have any on this trip. I assume the first floor rooms are smoking and pet rooms. There's a Pizza Hut right next door and a convenience store across the street. Arby's is close by and McDonald's is down the street. There are also a couple of places that offer delivery. Breakfast was reasonable. Eggs, sausage, waffles, muffins, coffee, juice, cereal. They had bagels, but I didn't see any cream cheese. I was on the 'grab and run', so I didn't take the time to ask for any. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

CONS: The TV was WAY outdated, an older tube TV. My 13 year old son was disappointed that he couldn't plug his PS3 in to the TV. The pool doesn't open until 11am, which stinks because check-out time is also 11, so no morning swimming.

I would stay here again for a night or two if I have reason to need a room in Montrose.

We were treated to the King Suite at the price of a regular room. It was very comfortable. Great bed, clean baths, microwave, fridge, and whirlpool spa. Nice flat screen TV. We were able to walk to where we ate. Our room was on the first floor at the end and we could use our keys to access the hallway through the outside door. Those things made for a very nice stay. We didn't get up in time to eat breakfast, so I can't address that.

Room Tip: Our king suite was nice. It had a recliner, sofa, and two chairs plus whirlpool spa tub.

So the plus:

Comfortable rooms. Good beds. Clean. Good Staff. Well lit parking area. Room for big trailers.
Good location. All of these are THE only reasons why this is 2 stars and not 1.

And the negative:
The pool opens at 11 am. Why the heck is that? 90% of the travelers show up at 9pm and leave no later than 10 am. You can't use the pool. The management has recognized this slide of hand. Trying to tell our 3 year old that the owners won't let him "swim" because they afraid of their pool being used was pretty rediculous. And if the management reads this, please, please consider some pool hours that start around 7 am. Why not? We pay to use it. Your ad "includes pool" should be revised to say "includes limited pool access"

The "hot breakfast" consists of fake eggs with tater tots and waffles that taste like they were mixed with 90% dirt. The orange juice is made from a powder of preservatives and has a pinkish puke hue to it. The milk is warm. My wife felt sick after wards. Hands down the worst breakfast I have ever seen at a "inclusive" hotel.

The prices seem to "float". I called at 4pm and got a price of 74$. My wife calls back in 1 hour and gets a price quote of $85 per night. When she tells them "that is not the price you told us" they concede and give us the original price. Weird.
