During our four-thousand-mile trip we went to six or seven national parks and monuments, saw all the usual sites on our route, and this museum ranks near the top of our favorites. The hotel clerk in Montrose recommended that we stop there on our way to Black Canyon NP, and we're glad we did.
The museum is the brainchild and life-long work-of-love of archeologist and historian Rich Fike. The non-profit museum is in-process, but has zillions of artifacts and antiques, presented in authentic looking shops: a bar, pharmacy, dry goods store, schoolhouse, church, barber shop, dentist office, doctor's office and more.
You will also enjoy Mr. Fike if he's there and you have opportunity to meet him.
