“An unexpected pleasure!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2011

The room was clean and very spacious. We were on the 2nd floor, but there were stairs every 10 rooms or so, so we could park very near the the steps we needed to take. Also, the steps were very wide, & a low height, so walking up them with suitcases was super-easy!
We totally enjoyed our stay here! We booked the room just the day before, intending to go to the Great Sand Dunes National Park the next morning. It was a delightful surprise to find out we could see a movie from our hotel room. The room was much more spacious than most hotels with 2 queen beds, so there was plenty of room for me, my husband and our two teenaged daughters. The beds and pillows were excellent.
We did not get a chance to visit the restaurant on the premises, but that is a very useful feature.

The pet rooms are in a small separate building they refer to as the "Annex." The Annex rooms do not have a view of the movie screens. It seems that the Annex building was probably renovated from a snack bar or something when there were more screens at the drive in, and the walls in the room give away the age of the building. They weren't in bad shape, just clearly not new.

I stayed two different times at this hotel on the same trip. Rooms were well-appointed, including a flat-screen TV (although the cable service had a limited channel selection). A few bugs and spiders had managed to get into the rooms, possibly due to the exterior doors (rather than interior hallway doors), but despite the invaders the rooms were quite clean. My room for my first stay was on the back of the building, and on the front for my second stay. It made quite a difference for road noise. Bed and bath linens were nice. Everything worked and wi-fi connection was fine. The light switch near the door controlled the light over the sink and vanity area, which was fine on first arriving in the room, but didn't make practical sense when actually using the sink area.

Staff was friendly, helpful, and accommodating to my requests.

Huge field behind the buildings is great for exercising dogs.

The location was a very convenient five minutes from my destination, but I give it three stars for value because the price seems a bit high for the area, even despite the nicely-appointed room.

I would stay again but would attempt to negotiate a better rate, especially if I was staying more than one night.

A fun throwback to old travel times. This is a wonderfully quaint gem of a hotel. Who can deny the fun in viewing a movie on a drive in screen from the comfort of your room.

Ask for John Travolta's room for the best view.

My family loved this hotel. Who wouldn't -- we got to watch a brand new movie out the window of the hotel! It was a very neat experience. The playground was great too -- old fashioned equipment but newly painted and very nice. My only complaints are that they don't provide breakfast, and the sound for the movie could have been better. Other than that it was great!

My family has been visiting the Movie Manor for over 15 years now. If anything, it's a little better than it used to be. It's an older motel, but well renovated.

All rooms point toward the main drive-in theater screen, and they all have speakers to hear the show. What we found out this trip is that you can also see the second screen if you look sideways out the window, and the second screen uses FM for its audio, so the clock radio in our room worked great.

The exercise room is a just a converted guest room, but its equipment is surprisingly modern. It was a great way to work up a little sweat after a long drive. For little kids, there's still a playground at the base of the main drive-in screen.

The WiFi was surprisingly strong, and the cable TV included HBO this time. (The Movie Manor had held out for a long time, which isn't so strange considering the free first-run movies available out the window every night.) However, the cable lineup was actually a little sparse.

The adjacent restaurant is a godsend, especially in the morning, even though breakfast isn't free. (Try the Kibbie beef sausage patties.) In evenings during drive-in season, walk straight over to the snack bar for hamburgers and true drive-in food to take back to your room.

This is a destination, which is good because it's not very close to anything else. It's a good mile outside the small town of Monte Vista. Each room's door opens to a spectacular, sweeping view of scrub brush and semi-desert. But if you can work a one-night stay here into your cross-Colorado plans, you'll have good memories to talk about for years to come.

The hotel is just outside of town (drive in theatre) and has a good restaurant next door. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel staff was awesome! I forgot something in the room when we left & they called me and held it for us till we were passing back through. Between the service, the rooms, the old fashioned drive in & snack bar experience and restaurant, we will be back next time we're in the area. Had a great time!

The reason we booked a room here was to take advantage of being able to watch a "drive-in" type movie from our hotel room. Unfortunately we did not realize that movies are only shown seasonally and since it was the middle of winter there were no movies showing. Despite this, the Movie Manor Motel was a fun place to stay with a "Bate's Motel" type feel to it (in a fun way rather than frightening). The room was clean and beds were comfortable. There was even a complimentary fly swatter left in one of the drawers (which luckily we did not need). The restaurant did not have a very wide selection so we ended up driving a mile or so to get some Chinese take out which was surprisingly good.
Even though we did not get to enjoy a movie (and with no A/V jacks on the TV we could not play our own movie either), there was free wifi and cable television including HBO. Monte Vista is a very small town and after days of traveling we really appreciated the comfort and peacefulness of the Movie Manor Motel. I would stay here again if I am ever in the area.
