“A Wonderful Wedding Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2006

My Husband and I were married at the Red Crags on January 1st 2006. We arrived with our families on December 31st and stayed until January 2nd. Everything was great! All of our guests had a fabulous time. The rooms were unique and beautiful. Lynn acted as Innkeeper and she was terrific! Thanks again, The Nabers.

My husband and I just returned from a two-night stay at the Red Crags, and we were completely satisfied in every respect. The location of the inn is absolutely breathtaking - you can see Pike's Peak and Garden of the Gods easily from many rooms as well as the garden. The inn is very historic and Teddy Roosevelt once stayed there (there's a picture in the parlor).

We were welcomed by Gordon, the bell boy, who showed us where everything was and explained a lot about the history of the place. He was very professional.

We stayed in the Cherub room, which is really a kind of suite consisting of a living room with a sofa, fireplace, and large desk, and an alcove with the king sized feather bed. The bathroom is attached, and while it didn't have a tub (just a shower), it was beautifully appointed. This room is on the second floor, was spotlessly clean and very quiet.

For breakfast each day we were offered hot dishes, like French toast, sausage, and frittata, as well as fresh fruit, cereal, muffins, and bagels. Everything was delicious, and it was such a treat to eat at the large, formal dining room table!

During the rest of the day there were always snacks and drinks in the pantry, and you were welcome to take as much as you wanted. Wine was available in the evenings. Brett, the innkeeper, made us feel completely at home, and was accessible to handle potential problems at any time of day or night. (There were none.)

Red Crags is a top-notch B&B, and we will definitely return.

BEWARE! DO NOT GET MARRIED HERE, DO NOT EVEN STAY HERE! THE INNKEEPER IS A VERY UNPLEASANT AND AN EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL INDIVIUAL. He made a lot of promises and then went back on them. He would show up make demands then leave, all WHILE THE WEDDING WAS GOING ON. It was very obvious that he only cared about his needs, and they are all unreasonable. The main staff member, Lynn, is a lovely person. She is very good at her job. However, Brett Maddox, the innkeeper, treats her terribly. No wonder she is leaving for another job at twice the salary and half the hours. In short, he ruined what would have been an otherwise happy and memorable day. Towards the end of the day, he demanded more money. An end time of 10PM was agreed upon, however, he showed up at 830PM and said the wedding was suppose to be over at 7pm and he would now start charging $75 per each ½ hour the wedding continued. There were still guests there!!! Look elsewhere, it’s not worth the trouble to deal with such a horrible person.

This was our first stay at a bed and breakfast, and we found the Red Crags to be an excellent facility. The suite was spacious, and the feather bed was luxurious. The management was very gracious when we checked in and throughout our stay. We enjoyed the evening refreshments, the lovely breakfast, and the company of the other guests.

Brett and his staff are top notch! We stayed for eight days and these people did everything in their power to make our stay just a truly wonderful experience. They went way out of heir way to make my teenage son feel as though he were king of their castle. Place is simply magnificent and the location is nothing short of amazing. Saw wildlife roam freely on the property every day we stayed. I actually went downstairs one morning around 8:00 AM and came face to face with a female deer standing right at the side entrance door. If there was one drawback to the trip it would be that Brett is a Dallas Cowboys fan. I still have hope that he will see the light and become a STEELER fan. We will most certainly look these people up on our next trip out west. Thanks a bunch Brett and the Red Crags staff.

We stayed at the Red Crags Bed and Breakfast one night in June 2005. Very beautiful house, common areas, as well as bedrooms. Front porch was very nice to sit on and enjoy the mountain views. Red and white wine, and chocolate cake was available in the evening when we arrived. Feather beds very comfy, hot tub in backyard area. There is a coach house, a separate building that can be rented also. In spite of an early morning electrical outage in town, the owner did a fabulous job preparing and serving breakfast.
Close to Garden of the Gods, and convenient to the Pikes Peak Cog R.R.

We left this stay very disappointed with the unsympathetic hospitality of the new management; it resulted in a very uncaring and dissatisfying stay. When we checked in, the innkeeper was very nice, and we thought we had found a good B&B-- At first. However, in the morning, we opted not to come downstairs for breakfast because we were exhausted. At 10 a.m., the hotel staff phoned us insisting that we come down "immediately" for breakfast since they were still holding it for us. (Breakfast was at 8 a.m.) We agreed to come down, and my 10-year-old daughter and I hurried to get downstairs. When we got there they told us that they had thrown our breakfast away. However, we could clearly see the breakfasts on the counter of their kitchen. If it isn't the epitome of bad service to make a small child cry, I'm not sure what is. $225 a night? Not worth it. When we checked out, the innkeeper was very snide and said "Sorry things didn't work out this morning," with a very "oh well" attitude, and not the professional attitude one would expect from a hotel manager. I give the B&B a good rating for the room, but a shabby rating for the treatment of its patrons. Take a pass... You can do better. After all, you're paying over $200 for it, and you're the guest.

I remember the day well as I had just arrived, my brother and I purchasing the Bed & Breakfast. The former owner, who was assisting me on how to operate the business was pretty much exhausted of the B & B business. When this occurred I was not happy but not knowledgeable enough to know better or correct him. Sorry this happened and hope you will come see what I have learned since 2004!
