“Perfect, Perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2008

The stay at Blue Skies was the beginning of a week-long family vacation in Colorado. The first night was a romantic evening for me and my husband; we picked up our son from camp and he spent the second night with us. The decor, food, cleanliness, service, privacy, location......everything was just perfect. (My son and husband would have appreciated a breakfast that included some meat though!)

Our suites are great for both couples and families, thanks for your comments! In 18 years of innkeeping, the most asked question about breakfast is about meat. The overwhelming majority of our guests do not want to see it in the breakfast basket, so we have let the majority rule. Our egg dishes are plentiful and baked with many different kinds of cheese, so we know that we serve a nutritious breakfast. We regret that we can't serve many different egg entries in a single day, so we hope you'll understand the no-meat deicison.

This B&B is the perfect place to take a first or second honeymoon, or even just a quick little getaway. The innkeepers bring breakfast right to your room, and the hot tub outside is great. Sally & Mike went out of their way to see that our stay was perfect without being intrusive. We plan to go back, many times.

Thanks for your note about first and second honeymoons. Sometime we have a guest for a "babymoon" - a clelebration for a couple before a baby is born. It might be one of the last few times they'll have together before the responsibilities of having a young child. We always look forward to those guests returning as a little family.

Thanks for your comment about the value of our suites. We proudly ststae that room rates havne't gone up in twelve years, and we are all about providing a good value. While we don't compare to a chain motel, our guests are assured of a memorable time with a great breakfast!

The owner(s) are very rude and obnoxious and just not nice people.

Using a maiden name means that you can't be contacted in your room.

I had family stay there over Memorial Day weekend and tried to contact them. The B&B owner would not connect me because I gave a room number and the name they had didn't match the one I gave. When I asked them to look at the first names and see if there's a match, or to simply call the people in that room and ask them to call a Dan, if they knew one, I could not get my message across because she would repeatedly hang up on me.

Turns out that they used the guests maiden name for some reason, but with just a touch of kindness instead of the insolence and rudeness we encountered by being hung up on, all of this would've been avoided. They're just not nice people.

This review was not written by a guest. To answer it, we _are_ nice, in fact, we are SO nice that we wouldn't ever call all of our rooms or go door to door as the caller suggested, looking for a first or last name that wasn't used at check-in by a guest. If a caller doesn't know a name, we can't complete the call. Perhaps the in-town caller could have driven to the inn to find his relative rather than call every twenty seconds for over an hour. We finally disconnected the inn's phone system. We promise privacy to all of our guests, and we would not disturb any of them by a room to room search.

What a perfect little place! A friend and I stayed here for a girls week-end getaway and we couldn't have been happier. Large room, amazing grounds with waterfalls flowers and several little hideaway garden areas, hot tub and the best breakfast a little basket could hold. The owners are fantastic and friendly without being "too present". The location of the inn is close to the Garden of the Gods and an easy drive to the downtown area. We loved our 2 night stay and are still missing the breakfast delivered to our door.

  • Liked — the gardens and breakfast
  • Disliked — our theme in our room wasn't really my style

Yes, the innkeepers have also stayed at inns where the innkeeper felt "too present." That inspired us to build an inn where our guests could have as much privacy as they want, including room service breakfast which can be enjoyed in the suite or in one of our pretty gardens with other guests.

My husband and I stayed in the Morning Glory suite while our teenagers had the Starlight suite. We all loved our rooms!
The rooms are so comfortable that you feel at home all the while the decorations give you a sense of fantasy.
Our room overlooked the beautiful secret garden with a trail & waterfall fountain and mountains in the background. What a view to have when you wake up in the morning.
Breakfast is delivered to your door and WOW is it good! We couldn't wait each morning to see what Mike was bringing up in the basket. The muffins are delicious.
Mike & Sally (the innkeepers) are happy to give you any info you need, bring movies to your room, and spend time chatting with you. Susie (housekeeping) was very gracious to us.
Our stay at Blue Skies Inn was wonderful and we did not want to leave. We will go back next year!

Thanks for comments about our helpful staff. All of us know lots about the attractions and history of the Pikes Peak area, and we all enjoy chatting with our guests as they plan their day's activities. We can give you driving tips and recommend excellent restaurants, too!

Blue Skies Inn is the most unique and inviting B&B I've ever stayed in. What makes it so unique is that the buildings and grounds were designed, built, and decorated by the Owner. She was inspired by an antique carriage house that still stands on the property. Unlike some B&Bs with a main house, this place is divided into individual buildings. Two units on a lower level and two above. It's like you have your own carriage house separate from the other guests. All of the rooms are decorated in their own theme whether it be gardens, clouds, the jungle or Native American Art. No two rooms are alike. I stayed in a Native American inspired room. I felt like I entered a ancient cave painting. The walls had images of horned toads, elk, lizards and mountains all from taken from Native American art. The owner, Sally, painstakingly painted each image in this room and in every room at the inn. The quality of her work is truly exceptional. Last year I stayed in a room called Ferdinand's Garden. This room is Sally's tribute to a long ago gardener whose spirit can still be seen and felt amongst the beauty of the room. Again the walls and bathroom tiles are all hand painted floral arrangements. A suspended canopy of lights and flowers hangs over the bed. You feel as if you are sleeping under the stars. A jetted tub and fireplace complete the romance. The delicious breakfast is brought to your room each morning in a picnic basket. The fresh baked muffins are the perfect way to start your morning and all of the adventures that Manitou Springs has to offer. The grounds of the B&B contain beautiful flower gardens, stone staircases and a cascading waterfall. Sit on the porch, eat your breakfast and watch the wildlife. I saw a beautiful buck come out the gardens one morning over coffee. Spend some time talking to Sally and you'll be a true believer that passion, artistry and creavity are alive and well in Colorado.

  • Liked — The design of the rooms, this is really unique.
  • Disliked — Nothing, everything I wanted for a vacation stay was there.
