We stayed here 4 nights of Labor Day week. It's now called the Rodeway Inn at the Castaways.

The check-in was quick and easy. Our room was the furthest from the pool and hot tub. The little refrigerator was extremely loud. We considered going to another motel. I asked the lady in the office if we could go to another room. She said all that was left were deluxe rooms that were $45 more per night. I asked her if she'd at least swap the fridge for another. She told me they all sounded that way.

As a side - when I was in the lodging business 30 years ago we would hve worked with a disappointed customer. Either we would have comped him the 1st night then moved him the next. Or, we would have put him in the more expensive room at the same rate as the original. I guess those days are long gone.

We decided to stay anyway. That was a mistake. The bed was too soft and the pillows too small. The fridge got worse through the week. When the room above us was occupied we could hear the floor above creak when someone walked across it.

The light outside was over the picture window instead of the door. At night light poured in the top and bottom of the curtains. It was never dark in the room.

On a good note, the housekeeping was very good except the bed didn't get made one day. The room looked nice, the TV was good, and so was the hot tub. It's a nice location with a great view of Pikes Peak..

All in all...we should have left the 1st night. We'll stay somewhere else next time.

My son and I stayed here for one night with the idea that if we liked it, we would stay another night. Well we moved to the brand new Comfort Inn (which was literally within walking distance) for our second night in Manitou Springs. My only real complaints with Castaways were the late breakfast, because we were taking an early Cog Railway up Pikes Peak, so we could hike down (yes, all 13 miles down!). Also, there were porch lights located directly above and outside the picture window of the rooms. There must have been 1000 watt bulbs in there, because no matter how tight you shut the drapes, the room was filled with light all night (I need it dark to sleep well). This wasn't really a terrible place ... just not right for me.

We stayed two nights and found it to be nice. The staff was very friendly. We had tickets for the 8am cog railway and breakfast didn't start till 8am ( too late if you want to get an early start). But the lady at the desk the night before did wrap up some pastries for us since we wouldn't be there for breakfast. The pool had a few leaves in it- outdoor. But still fun for the kids. The sink was outside of the toilet shower area (my favorite when trying to get a family of 5 ready.) We had a Cabella's cot in the room, it was a little crowded with that. Had a fridge, microwave and coffee pot. Fridge was a little loud at night. Overall, we had no complaints and would stay there again. The price was right.
