We've been going to Shelley's for about four years now. We really enjoy it. The cabins are not 5 star luxury, but certainly sufficient and always very clean. The grounds are always very well maintained. The owners are welcoming and accomodating. I think people who stay here have to keep in mind that this property is family owned and operated so there are some minor inconveniences related to that issue. They have resently updated the insides of the cabins so they look nice and homey. We have only had trouble with the hot tub one time. They are usually quite hot, clean, and relatively secluded. Our biggest complaint is always comfort. The living rooms have futons--not the most comfortable when you want to put your feet up and relax. Overall, though, a great, relaxing, affordable place to stay. We'll be back. (ps- we have NEVER been charged any kind of extraneous fee. We clean the messes we make and respect other people's property.)

I think Shelly's was ideal to visit during the winter. My boyfriend and I were looking for a cabin not too far away from Denver where we could relax and do a little hiking. The cabins are located close together, so if all the cabins were full I feel that it would not seem as private. The hot tubs are very private, though.

The cabins were extremely clean and the staff was very helpful and friendly. We had everything we needed for a getaway!

Shelly's is amazing. You get that rustic feel of being in a cabin in the wilderness, but with modern convenience. Great rooms with amazing beds, private hot tub out back and a great little kitchen. Each cabin also has a grill, which we use on every trip. Right next door to Shellys up the dirt road is a great hiking trail. Only a few minutes to Lyons and under 20 to Estes Park its a great location, and being able to sit on the grassy island with the river running all around you....nothing beats that.

My girlfriend and I escaped to Shelly's for a scrapbooking weekend. We could not have made a better choice! Just outside of Lyons and located in the canyon-it is very quiet and beautiful, we had no distractions, unless you count the scenery. We were able to check in with no issues, the owners were very informative and extremly kind. The room was perfect for our needs. We had plenty of space to spread out, which is important when you are scrapbooking! The beds were very comfortable and the room was clean. We had picked our cabin from the internet, and it was exactly what we expected (their website is great!) When we needed a break it was nice to be able to walk down to the river and just enjoy the mountain air. It's very quiet and peaceful. We both really enjoyed sitting in the hot tub and staring up at the stars, perfect for catching up with a good friend. We hated to pack up and leave, we will return for sure!

My husband recently surprised me with the most peaceful, relaxing, romantic trip to Shelly's Cottages. Escaping from our fast-paced Fort Lauderdale life, which includes four children, we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at Shelly's. The moment we stepped out of our vehicle I knew I was in heaven.

The owners, Kim and Troy, greeted us at the door and welcomed us as if we were family. They gave us tips on hiking, boating and even hot air balloon rides.

Upon entering our room, I was surprised to find a bottle of champagne, decadent chocolates and beautiful flowers. Kim and Troy had helped my husband prepare an exquisite touch to our romantic get-a-way.

The property is absolutely gorgeous and the sounds of the river was beautiful. In the evenings we would relax in our private hot tub, which was the perfect temperature for our summer stay.

Kim and Troy made checking out simple, which only helped continue our serenity.

Now back to our busy lives in the city, I find mydself taking time during the day to close my eyes and picture us back at Shelly's Cottages - bringing back the peacefulness of our week.

We plan to make this an annual trip; possibly coming in the winter to experience the glow of the snow.

Thank you, Kim and Troy, for making our trip unforgettable.

My husband and I went to Shelly's for our honeymoon. We had been looking to stay in CA but the cost went up far too quickly so we decided to look within our own state and we were very pleased to find Shelly's Cottages. We booked it immediately - we stayed in Cottonwood. We loved it so much that we extended our stay at the last minute, and since Cottonwood was already taken for the next night we moved to Aspen, which has the gazebo over the hot tub, so we were happy to move anyway. The pictures were true to life, and we were really wowed by how snug and attractive everything was - the decor was appropriate (moose on the wall in Aspen, deer in Cottonwood [pictures, not creepy heads!!]) the bed and the couch were both amazing and comfy, I loved that the tv had a DVD player since most hotels don't, and the kitchenette was adorable and stocked with almost everything you need to cook (Aspen didn't have the cooking utensils that Cottonwood did, I hope no one stole them). The river nearby was blissful to listen to, and the hot tub was awesome. They were fairly new with digital controls that easily raised or lowered the temp, turned on a light or turned on the jets which were awesome. Aspen had the gazebo, but the walk to the hot tub was less private than Cottonwoods, and Cottonwood's had the superior cover and higher fences all around for absolute privacy. (there was one little crack where the roof met the fence, but practically no one is out walking around) Some of the outside lights were burnt out, but the owners do cleaning and maintenance during the day so it's probably as a result of no one telling them about it. The room was very clean - someone in 2006 said the ceiling had staining, but it looked like the color or the staining of the wood to me, nothing to be disturbed about, and the window wells seemed fine. The shower was tiny, but it is understandable due to the space of the cabin. There was no door to the shower, just a curtain, so my hubby drenched the floor on his first go in the shower, but simply adjustments kept the floor dry. I loved the tiling in the kitchenette and the bathroom, just beautiful. We cooked most of the time to save money, and used the grill. The charcoal that was provided for three bucks was fail (possibly due to the unseasonably cold and humid week we had) but we went into town and got some better charcoal that worked like a charm. All of this to say - we loved Shelly's and we will hopefully return! We were sad to go home!
