Merles had been one of our go to LiDo (Littleton downtown) dining spots when they first opened, good food, nice beers, friendly folks, reasonable prices. Then when hot competition opened right across the street (The Tavern), Merles decided they needed to cut corners and save pennies. No more roasting of tomatoes for the wedge salad, seeming just to pass the truffle oil over the fries without actually putting any of the good stuff on spud sticks. Was too bad cuz they are an independent cool spot in Lido, the big garage doors open in nice weather, sweet little rooftop patio. Now they’ve got some new menu times again and food and service seem to be back on track. Nice truflly fries again – yeah! Burgers good as they’d been. One slightly off target menu choice was the roasted root veg salad: nice chunks of various beets, parsnips, etc, but were all of varying texture and offhandly scattered throughout the bed of tart greens – the salad needed something to pull it together and the slice of pistachio toast was not that element. Do try to hit Merle’s happy hour - always a bargain with some good eats and drink prices to match.
