I have stayed at many historic hotels and was looking forward to my stay here...It is really a shame what has happened at this hotel. It is like staying in a flea market -- no elegance at all. The lobby is filled with clothing racks, boxes, and so many non-related items for sale that you feel as if you are in a distress sale. It has hard to move about the lobby without tripping. Everything in the hotel is for sale and they have tons of it! Decor, antiques, collectibles, clothing, the list goes on and on...and it isn't just in the lobby...the halls upstairs, the guest rooms, the breakfast area --- pricetags everywhere and loaded with merchandise. In terribly bad taste. The room was also not as promised - very small, badly furnished, horrendous bath and shower with a sink stuck in the room. And the king mattress was only four inches thick -- very cheap make with a board underneath -- no box spring!! Incredibly uncomfortable. Worst night of my entire journey through the state.
