We will never eat there again.
We were told there were only three places open for breakfast in Leadville. The Tennessee Pass was the closest. We will skip breakfast before we ever go to Tennessee Pass again. My wife ordered eggs, toast and potatoes. I asked the young waitress if they had Eggbeaters. She had never heard of them. So I ordered a blueberry crepe. When our meals came, my wife’s potatoes were tiny cubes, very browned, congealed in grease and reheated at least one. They were crunchy and difficult to chew, so she set them aside. My blueberry crepe was half a plate of the same inedible leftover potatoes and half a plate of whipped cream. The whipped cream was sprinkled with 14 blueberries. The soggy crepe was folded to the side under the whipped cream. I pushed the plate aside, explaining what was wrong, and the confused waitress took the plate. I asked for toast. The waitress eventually brought me toast soaked in butter. I explained that I only wanted toast. Because of cholesterol concerns, I can’t have butter. I learned that the waitress had left some high school in the Midwest a month before and was trying to find herself. This story, in a decrepit building and paisley colors for the interior, made me think I was back in 1968. The waitress admitted that no one in the restaurant had much experience. My wife shared her toast with me. I paid for the mostly-uneaten meal; my wife said she never would have paid for it. However, I felt sorry for the young waitress who had some problem that washed her up in Leadville Colorado waiting tables.
Skip this place. It is the second worst eatery I have experienced in the United States. If I ever eat breakfast in the town again, I will try the Golden Burro or the Delaware Hotel. Or I will eat crackers from the snack machine in the gas station.
