I stayed at the Hampton Inn Lakewood (southwest of downtown Denver) in late August 2006 on a Hilton Honors point stretcher reward. I was able to get a room night for only 7,500 points, so even though I think the hotel was only average (mainly due to location), I felt like it was a great value for the points used.
Location: The Hampton Inn is not located on any major highways. You can get to downtown pretty easily after looking at a map and driving for 20-30 minutes, but this was not the best base to use as a starting point for traveling around the Denver area as a tourist (ie Pike's Peak/Garden of the Gods, Rocky Mountain National Park). If I were to stay in Denver again and I was paying for the stay, I'd pick something along I-25 (such as Four Points down by the Denver Tech Center). However, if you can get a point stretcher deal for this hotel, I thought it was worth a bit of inconvenience on the location for the great deal. Although the hotel was not in a good location related to touristy areas I wanted to see, there were a lot of restaurant options a short distance away.
Hotel: The hotel itself was in good shape for being an older property. Room bathrooms and linens had been updated, but carpets were older. The property has not been fully updated to the new Hampton Inn look and furnishings/decorations. That being said, I didn't have any issues with cleanliness, room temperature or comfort of the bed. All of the rooms look onto the atrium of the hotel. I thought noise would be a problem because of the open floors, but I didn't have any noise problems. However, I stayed at the end of the hotel away from the breakfast area. I would not have wanted a room on the first floor that was by the breakfast area (especially if I wanted to sleep in at all). Be sure to ask for a room on the 2nd floor and away from the breakfast area to avoid any early morning noise.
I was a bit disappointed with the pool at the hotel as well. There was no jacuzzi and the outdoor pool was supposedly heated, but felt cold when I tested the water.
Breakfast was very good each morning and was included with the room (no extra charge). It was a typical Hampton Inn breakfast: cereal, a few hot items such as waffles, sausage and eggs, bagels, yogurt, muffins, etc.
