I am actually said to write a mostly negative review because the food was actually pretty good compared to a lot of Mexican restaurants I have been to recently. My biggest complaints is the service.
My husband and I came here for lunch after seeing a matinee movie at Belmar. We were seated right away and were given our drinks quickly, then we ordered our meals. We noticed on the menu that any additional bowls of chips and salsa would be $1.75 extra - I found that unusual, but I certainly can't complain about it because no restaurant has to offer free food items in the first place. The food came out quickly after we ordered, and I was surprised at how large my chimichanga wasf or 2:00 in the afternoon!
Like I said, the food was definitely good. Then I asked for a drink to take with me when we left. I was told this would be $2 extra. Really? I am paying $2.50 for the one glass of Coke I drank and I now have to pay another $2 to take one with me? I just blew it off because again, they don't have to offer a free drink to-go, but $2 seems a little over-the-top, and I just asked for the check. When we received the bill I looked and noticed that we were not given lunch pricing on anything. My husband called over the manager and pointed to the "Lunch Specials" menu that was still sitting on our table and asked why we were not given that pricing. He said, "Oh, it's all computerized so if we don't put the order in the computer before 3 then it comes up as dinner pricing." My husband politely pointed out that it was just now 3:05 so our order would have been put in long before 3. The manager paused and then said, "Well, if you don't specifically ask for the lunch pricing then we don't give it to you." At this point if I had been the manager I probably would have offered to change the pricing since this was not stated on the menu or the "Lunch Specials" advertisement anywhere, but he just stood there looking at us.
These may sound like petty things, but it cost us an additional $7 to our meal so I was not exactly thrilled with our experience when we left. And if that is how the manager himself handles customer inquiries, I will probably not be returning.
