“Super nice little RV park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

We just spent two nights tent camping at Elkhorn RV Resort. This is one of the best RV parks we've ever visited. It's super clean, the owners are friendly and helpful, and it's convenient to walk to the downtown stores, restaurants, and hiking trails. The resort is only three blocks from the highway, but it's far enough away to make it quiet and restful.
The state was in a burn ban while we were there, so no campfires were allowed, but the resort has a nice propane grill for cooking on the covered deck.
We hope to return!

We stayed in one of the cabins at the Elkhorn RV Resort this past weekend. The owner greeted us promptly and had our reservation waiting for us. The cabin and restrooms were very clean. We also liked the close distance to town and to the trailheads we would be hiking. Our cabin even came with a local cat, Sally, who hung out with us on the porch. We liked that the cabin came with a dedicated grill and table/chairs to sit outside. Two important things to note: the cabins do not have private bathrooms. You will need to use the community bathroom/shower. Also, you need to bring your own linens, including pillows (something we forgot). Otherwise, the price was the best in the town for a clean, comfortable, friendly place to stay.

Lake City is a small town located in a valley between beautiful mountains and is a hub for many activities. We have hiked some of Colorado's 14ers, Jeeped the 4 wheel roads of Engineer Pass and Cinnamon Pass (to name a few), visited the old mining towns (Animas Forks is our favorite), and shopped the quaint town. If the winters weren't so harsh we would move here. This RV park and cabins is the best place to stay in town. We have only stayed in the cabins - they are very clean and comfortable. In the morning they putout coffee and sometimes slices of a fresh baked sweet bread. When we head to Colorado the boys ask if we are staying at Elkhorn!

We spent a Saturday evening at Elkhorn in one of their cabins, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This is also an RV park, but we did not have one, so this review is about the cabins and the amenities offered at Elkhorn.

We got the last of the cabins for the weekend - the largest model, which sleeps 6. There are two other sizes. The cabin was very comfortable, well appointed, clean and bright. There was a queen bed, two bunk beds, and a couch that opens to a double bed. There was also a color tv, refrigerator, microwave and table for 4 in the cabin, as well as a table for 4 and a barbeque on the porch. You must bring your own linens. Bathrooms and showers are located nearby. We were up against a rocky bluff, but the night noises were minimal and there was no traffic around our cabin. It appears that many RVers stay here for extended periods of time, so traffic throughout the park was minimal.

Lloyd, our host, was very friendly. It had been several years since I was last in Lake City, and he was helpful in advising us of where to eat for dinner and breakfast. He would have been equally as helpful if we needed information on local events and places to go. I appreciated his pet-friendly attitude, with no extra charges, only a request to be a responsible pet owner. In the evening, a campfire was lit in front of the shower/bathroom area, and in the morning, coffee was available on the deck. The grounds were clean and well-maintained, There is a laundry, but we didn't use it. Showers/bathroom areas were clean, with two showers and toilets each for men and women.

When I got home, there was a message from Lloyd informing me that I had left my earrings in the cabin. He was quick to assure me that he'd mail them off to me as soon as he could. Can't get much better service than that!

Most of Lake City's cabin rentals require a multi-night stay, and few allow dogs (especially big ones like ours) without an extra charge. We found the Elkhorn to be just the right place for a nice weekend in Lake City. We'll definitely go back again.
