Truly at the corner, this B & B is a good place to use as a base for traveling in southeastern Colorado. Your host, Sara Harding is the best, full of ideas for day trips and makes a killer breakfast. My favorite-the stuffed french toast. The rooms are clean and each has a private bath. Even though there was a TV in the living room, time was spent outside or taking in places of interest.
Cool places to visit in and around La Veta include Fort Francisco, Uptop ( once home to the highest narrow gauge railroad in the world) - and Vista Point. Harding's Corner is situated on the Highway of Legends which takes you from La Veta to Trinidad along an amazing road chock full of incredible scenery. (Take the road back from Trinidad and enjoy the view of the Sangre de Christos.) If a cold beer and pizza is your favorite fare, the Dog Bar in Cuchara is not far away.
Time slips quietly away when you are at Harding's Corner. Come and sit on the front porch, enjoy the cool mountain air and watch the clouds play around West Spanish Peak while the stress just seems to fade.
I heartily recommend Harding's Corner to anyone who loves to find a hidden gem.
