“Lone Eagle and Keystone - growing pains”

Lone Eagle Condos at River Run Village

Jan 2, 2008

Just got back yesterday from a 6 night stay. First time at Keystone with two teens, 16 and 19.We stayed in a 3 bedroom condo. We didn't face the slopes - had we known this was an option we would have asked.
Pluses: The location can't be beat - right at the base of the gondola and quad lift. We had an indoor ski locker large enough to fit all 4 boots and skis. The condo was spacious, though with bare minimum kitchen pots and pans and tools - and the cups were minuscule. The gas fireplace was nice. The Master bedroom had a shower with two heads, but only one of them worked. The staff - housekeeping at Lone Eagle and at the resort -- were all very friendly and tried to be helpful.
Minuses: Now this was a very busy holiday week so we tend to be forgiving. The housekeeping staff seemed overwhelmed. We didn't get service our first day - second night. We didn't discover the terry robes until we went to do some laundry -- they were in the dryer. The garage is very tight, especially the doors, not well-thought-oput,considering many people had large SUVS, many of them rented. The fitness center had a bike, a treadmill and an elliptical plus one universal weight machine. The sauna is in the same small room so my son, who needed to work out as a college athlete, was very uncomfortable -- someone was always turning on the sauna but not always using it so the entire fitness room became a sauna. While we were there, it was unseasonably frigid (below zero every morning.) so we did not feel up to using the outdoor heated pool and jacuzzi. Getting restaurant reservations was a nightmare. Maybe we should have done this before but when we are on vacation we like to see what the day brings. There is a central reservations number and we were oh hold numerous times for more than 45 minutes at a time. -The message directed us to the website to make reservations, but when we tried, it said you need to call during the holiday week So back on hold for 45 minutes. (We actually thought there was a problem with the phone system, but when we called the main number we were assured there was no problem.) Also at reservations they said the Wolf Brewing company did not take reservations. When we walked in, we were asked whether we had any!!! They managed to find us a table when we complained. The food was not bad, the staff friendly -- we ate there twice.
The skiing: We are no better than intermediate skiers -- there is a great difference between some blue trails and others. We found it daunting to venture off the mountain we were at because we weren't confident we could comfortably handle any blue trail (We had a bad experience on mogly Wild Irishman but loved Spring Dipper)-- so we got a little bored. They need a base lodge, since River Run village is small and the two coffee shops could not accommodate great hordes of people trying to warm up. (We were lucky, we could just go to our condo.)Also from River Run, you have to go to the top of the mountain if you want to ski. I would have liked a lift to take us halfway, cince it was so cold at the top. We never took the gondola since the lines were too long.

“Great in Summer”

Lone Eagle Condos at River Run Village

We stayed at LE in June to golf and get away - RIver Run had a concert and it was terrific to relax and listen to free music in the village - we saw fireworks from the condo which we were not expecting. The shuttle was awesome - never had to wait and it oiften arrived beore we could even get to the lobby. The pool is perfect and looks right at the ski slope where the mountain bikers ride in the summer so that was fun to watch. Well worth the trip.

We just returned from a seven night stay at the Lone Eagle. I must say it was lacking in areas for the price that we paid. This is supposed to be the nicest accomodations on the mountain. Location was great. Ski in/out perfect. Great ski storage. The condo itself was obviously once beautiful. It had all upgraded appliances and fixtures, but for "the best place on the mountain" and the price we paid here are the complaints. When we arrived there were 3 stains on the living room carpet which we are certain was urine, trying to be covered up with carpet cleaner poured on it. The place smelled!! The bedroom had a moldy smell from the dried up water that had run down the wall and the peeling dry wall. Totally unacceptable! The front desk was not helpful at 12:30 am when we arrived. The next day they did clean the floor with a carpet cleaner, and vacuumed the whole place, which looked like it had not been vacuumed well in a year. By the end of the week we had mixed emotions, since the location was great and the unit would have been great, had they kept it maintained. Would probably stay at Lone Eagle, but not through keystone booking, maybe a private owner?

“The Place to Stay in Keystone”

Lone Eagle Condos at River Run Village

We are a family of 6, with 3 teens. The Lone Eagle was a perfect place to stay. Not only was the location perfect, ski in-ski-out, we were literally 200 feet away from the gondola. The condo was very spacious and the accommodations were new and very clean. Great underground parking as well! FUN, FUN, FUN. I would highly recommend this facility. Wonderful kitchens to create breakfasts. Ate at the Summit House on top for lunches and for dinner walked in to River Run Village, again, less than a 5 minute walk. Also took the gondola to the top for the Fondue dinner, which was fun. As a family we also enjoyed the sleigh ride/dinner. Peak season here and the flow of traffic on the slopes as well as waiting for lifts was fantastic. Was going to run over to Breckenridge but heard that the wait was much longer. All in all, a perfect vacation. Great skiing, fabulous lessons, wonderful accommodations, cozy fireplaces with laundry in the condo!!!! We will definately stay at Lone Eagle again.
