“Our problems with Key to the Rockies Management company continue”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2007

We were switched to Hidden River Lodge by the Key to the Rockies management company after our condominium at Tenderfoot Lodge was shrink wrapped for painting with us in it (see our review of Tenderfoot Lodge). Although the condominium in Hidden River Lodge is larger, there are a number of problems. First, the advertised dvd player does not work. This is a problem for us as we like to relax with a movie after a day of exploring. Second, the condo is so overstuffed with furniture it is hard to move around and the light in the second bedroom is completely blocked by a bunk bed pushed up within inches of the window. The sink area of the bathroom is not separated from the main bedroom so if one of us needs to get up during the night to take some medicine, the other is disturbed by the lights from the sink area. Overall, we have been very disappointed with our stay in Keystone which was orchestrated by a management company we consider to be incompetent. We love Colorado and have tried not to let the problems with the two condos get in the way but it has been a continuous struggle at these properties. All travelers should beware of the Key to the Rockies management company.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2005

My family and I stayed at the Hidden River Lodge during spring break March 2005. I rented the condo directly from the owner using VRBO. I chose this property because I knew it was close to the lifts, yet away from the congestion of the River Run area. I was not disappointed. The 1BR condo was beautifully decorated and could sleep up to six people. It was a reasonable walk to the lifts. There was also a shuttle than ran every 20 minutes. This was great at the end of the day. No one feels like lugging their skis home when they're tired.

The facilities were very new and up to date. There was no pool on site, but there are two outdoor hot tubs which directly face the slopes. This is a deed restricted property so all of the rental units face the slopes. There is heated, underground parking and ski lockers. The property abutts the Snake River and there is a nice walking path outside the condo. My kids loved the pool table that is in the loft part of the lobby. The price for the condo was very reasonable. I expect that I would have paid about $50 more a night had I rented directly from the Keystone resort.

Keystone is a great place to ski. It has plenty of beginner and intermediate slopes. There are also many challenging black slopes on the North peak and Outback. No one got bored during our 5 days of skiing. A-basin is a quick trip up the road. It is definately worth going there to see the beauty of this resort. I also recommend a trip through the Loveland pass. Just be careful if you normally reside at sea level, since there is definately an adjustment period needed for the altitude change.
