We absolutely loved our stay at Hideaway. The complex is really romantic/chilled, with a really well kept 'garden' and some high quality 'Cabanas'. The cocktail bar, happy hour and bar staff help kick off every evening in a fun and relaxed mood. The food - whether breakfast, lunch or dinner - is some of the best we had during our stay in Sri Lanka. And the staff get to know you, so you can ask for milkshakes or whatever else takes your fancy without having to sign anything. It really feels like home. That said, it probably is the priciest place in Arugam Bay, but for the standard,it's not expensive relative to other places in Sri Lanka, and we thought it was worth every penny.
I saw some more negative comments on the hotel, and just wanted to be clear about expectations: There are no bottles of water in the rooms, but you can get them at a cheap price at all hours from the main house. They sweep and clear your room daily, even if they don't change the sheets every day. It isn't a hotel but a beach 'resort' so no, you won't get the fridges you get in international hotel lines. It is true that our A/C made a bit ofnoise, but we eventually figured out a mode to keep it quiet. It is top quality for a beach resort, and it stays true to the beach and surfer vibe.
We really recommend it. The owner is originally from there, but has lived in Australia and the US for 20 years, so she knows how to give you the best of Sri Lanka and Arugam Bay (she grew up with a lot of people in the area) and she knows what standards you expect.
