“Four Thumbs Up!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

From the moment we called and spoke with Jeanie on the phone, it was obvious that we called the right place. Although we had to drive a bit from Winter Park...it was well worth it!

Not only was she courteous, but very knowledgeable and helpful! The rooms were very clean and just the right size.

Traveling becomes very easy when you run into somebody as welcoming as Jeanine! I would go out of my way to stay at The Canyon Motel (and hit up the Hot Springs as well)!

Room Tip: There is one room tucked around a corner that is the most secluded...I believe it is number 62. Enjo...

My boyfriend and I wanted to take a trip to the Hot Sulphur Springs by Granby. This place had GREAT rates and the pictures looked newer and cleaner than other places in the area. They had heated up the room for us and while we arrived late at night, the room was warm and inviting.

A couple of things:
There is almost nowhere to eat after 8 p.m. except for McDonald's. The Hot Springs close at 10. We went to the hot springs and wanted to eat around 9.
No continental breakfast, coffee maker in room, close parking, easy to find, very close to Hot Springs.

The owners and manager of this place are fantastic. While I was there they were completely renovating room 12 because they got one bad review on here. It is not easy to keep an older motel in top notch shape but these folks do a fantastic job. There are very few hotels who would take online reviews as serious as these guys obviously did.

In addition it is a very quiet motel conveniently located and they have free Craisins!!!
Hot Sulphur Springs is a very small town so you do want to make certain you either have food with you or get to the Glory Hole restraurant before they close for the day.

Room Tip: Room 11 with the king bed and kitchen is my favorite so far.

I would not recommend this hotel. When we peeled back the bed covers, there were dead flies. The blanket had a questionable stain that hadn't been washed. The vinyl bathroom floor hides wood rot underneath (floor gives where it's soft). Ceramic coffee cups had lip marks. When we were ready to check out, we uncovered a dirty black sock left from a previous guest. The bed mattress was worn out. TV channels are local only which limits selection to approx. 8 channels. We couldn't leave fast enough. These are big gross out factors.

Room Tip: Best option: stay in Winter Park.

We hope our excellent reviews on this and other travel sites show that this was an isolated complaint.

This room was marked for renovations and should have not been booked. We strive for clean, quality, comfortable rooms and remain AAA Approved.

There has also been new management since the date of this guest's stay.

The best place to stay in Hot Sulphur Springs. I've stayed here several times -- the motel has tremendous character and is pet-friendly. It's cheaper and more welcoming than the resort where the hot springs are, and has discount day tickets for the hot springs. What makes the place great is the manager, Angus, who takes great pride in it.

The only reason you might ever want to stay in Hot Sulfur Springs, CO is because you have been turned into a limp noodle by soaking in the hot springs in town. With that in mind, staying at the Canyon Motel is perfect as it is close to the springs, allows dogs, and is reasonably priced. The town is right on the railway line and the trains coming through at night still wake you up at the Canyon but don't actually shake you out of bed like at the Hot Springs Hotel. Management is very friendly, the rooms clean and comfortable so go soak and enjoy a nice play to stay.
