“River House is a piece of Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

My group of five shared the River House that was built in 2012. The setting is idyllic and the house is luxurious. It is directly on the La Platta river and the river sounds are easily heard through open windows. The two large bedrooms have large, well appointed bathrooms. The little library window seat makes into a very comfortable king bed. The kitchen was a joy to use to prepare whatever meals you should choose to cook. We all loved the in floor heating that made the wood floors and tile bathroom floors very comfortable to walk on in the cold mornings and nights.

Our mornings were spent watching the deer graze right outside the house. The breakfasts prepared by gracious Jackie were delicious. All of our requests were granted and the experience was perfect. We plan to return next fall.

P.S. We dined at Kennebec Cafe twice and both times afforded us superb meals and delightful servers. It is a great restaurant in a rural setting.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for Blue Lake Ranch and the River House unit. It was great to see your group enjoy themselves and the serenity that surrounds the Ranch.

The River House is the perfect home base for exploring the 4 Corners or just relaxing by the La Plata River and enjoying mother nature. Fall is such a great time to watch wildlife get ready for winter and the trees come alive with color. The gourmet kitchen is a wonderful space to get together and celebrate life with friends and loved ones.

We hope you return again to make more memories and group traditions.

LOVE this place. The feeling is warm and friendly from the moment you arrive. Jackie is amazing and cooks a wonderful breakfast...Boo Boo her helper is great. Scott and Candace are knowledgeable and helpful. The grounds are magnificent and beauty is everywhere you look. So happy we discovered it and will be returning soon.

Room Tip: A little noisy above the kitchen..but nothing that was really distracting. Mostly guests talking and...

We stayed in the lake view room. One morning we woke to a full moon setting then one hour later a rainbow. We watched it from our balcony. Jackie's breakfasts are awesome and her personality lights up the entire place. It is so serene and relaxing here and the accommodations are wonderful. We LOVED our stay!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for Blue Lake Ranch and the Lake View Suite. I think the balcony from the room has one of the best views of the Lake and the serene environment at the Ranch. It is a great place to watch wildlife or just read a book and relax. Thank you for your kind words and we look forward to your next visit.

We stayed in the Upper Spring House and it was, in a word, wonderful. We were there with another couple and each couple had nearly identical amenities in the bedroom (e.g., jetted tub, king size bed, shower, gas fireplace, etc.) plus a large sitting room with a large patio and great views of the mountains, the pond, and the surrounding meadows. We found the accommodations to be both luxurious and serene. The breakfasts were absolutely superb and Jackie (the cook; don't call her a chef) made everyone feel welcome and at home. Besides being able to prepare an "out of this world" breakfast, she was genuinely open and friendly. We have all agreed that we'd go back tomorrow if we could.

Room Tip: The Upper Spring House appears to have better light and better views than the Lower Spring House

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for Blue Lake Ranch and the Spring House. Both upper and lower Spring House have 2 master bedrooms w/ 2 separate amazing bathrooms. It is a perfect home base for a family or as in your case 2 couples traveling together.
Breakfast is a big part of what we do at Blue Lake Ranch and I will pass your kind words on to Jackie and the rest of the staff.
We look forward to your next visit and hope you have a great start to Fall.

Terrible weather but super warm, hospitable feeling in the kitchen. Stayed in main house so getting to and from breakfast was easy. Although be careful to ask for the room which is not above the kitchen. Although the noise was not extreme it was still noticeable. Someone has to be there right? Just wish it was disclosed in the room description. Love Jackie and the young man (whose name I forget) who assists her in the kitchen. She is the face of this B&B so warm and friendly. Her wonderful welcome every morning and amazing cooking always had us starting the day right. Her meals varied daily and were excellent. Just don't refer to Jackie as "a chef". She is definitely qualified but finds the title too "cold". We also loved the coffee. If you are a coffee drinker you know how important that first cup of the day is! The room itself was clean and a nice size. Even with the rainy weather we loved sitting out on our covered balcony. Had a lovely night drinking wine and watching the thunderstorm approach from one side while listening to the cows moo on the other side. Caitlin at the front desk was wonderful helping us with the safest route to Denver with the current flooding situation. We would definitely return. We would just try another room or cabin. From what the other guests were saying there are plenty of nice rooms/cabins. Our room was nice but we would try another.

Thank you for taking the time write a review for Blue Lake Ranch. I will share your kind words with the staff and I am glad you enjoyed your stay.

We have had an unseasonal wet start to Fall, luckily the rooms at the Ranch are set up to be a relaxing, comfortable, and luxurious place to catch up with loved ones and stay inside if the weather isn't cooperating. Some of our guests favorite nights are spent reading a book by the romantic fireplace with a good glass of wine or a cup of tea or hot chocolate.

We look forward to your next visit.

We stayed at the Cabin by the Lake for four idyllic days and can't wait to go back! The cabin is simple and rustic, but very comfortable & clean, with lovely bathrooms and comfortable sofas & beds. The views are very pretty, and the path around the "lake" (really more of a large pond) makes a sweet little walk. The cabin's kitchen is well equipped (though - note to owners - you really need to provide a large pasta pot and maybe some herbs & salt!) and the coffee beans provided in the fridge made a delicious pot of coffee. We enjoyed lounging on the deck & the dock during the day, and inside on the very comfy sofas at night. Local trips to Mesa Verde and Silverton were just a start of the many activities for families in the area. Gardens on the property were pretty, and a very pleasant morning stroll of the property was a wonderful way to start a day of R&R.

The stars were bright, the air was pure, the people wonderfully helpful & sweet, and the breakfasts fresh & satisfying. I can't really think of anything I would change (except the pasta pot!). We will most definitely be back!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Cabin by the Lake; other buildings and rooms on the property also looked quite nice...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for Blue Lake Ranch and the Cabin on the lake. The Cabin is one of my favorite units as it works as a perfect home base for all the wonderful activites in the area. The deck and dock of the Cabin are the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening while taking in the wildlife and the gardens of the Ranch.

I will go through the kitchen to make sure it is stocked with all needed items to cook a family feast. We look forward to your next visit.

The Lakeside suite was beautifully appointed, with fireplace and kitchen area in the room. Views of the small lake and mountains were beautiful. My husband and I walked around the property in the morning. Breakfast was great- well prepared, with lots of variety. It was a wonderful experience, which we hope to repeat in the future.
