“Good snowmobile rental”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014

The bikes we got were in good shape, no damage or restarting issues. The trail system was great, got out early and enjoyed seeing two moose and riding in fresh powder. The moose slowed us down, they don't like getting off the trail due to the deep powder and I didn't want to push them. Overall a great time, staff was helpful, but a little crabby when we had to revamp our reservation a few days ahead of time. Much bigger/better trail system than the one located near Vail, would definitely come back here again.

Upon checking in, the lady was fairly rude. Got stuck in the parking lot snow. For the amount that was paid, there should have been ample parking. Apparently snowmobile rentals were more important than patrons parking. Had to park a block away and walk to our room. The stairs were extremely slick and the hot tub smell was overbearing while outdoors. The temperature in the room was not maintainable, it was either too hot or too cold. The shower temp was lukewarm at best. All of this aside, the room was incredibly clean!

We rented a single and double snowmobile for 2 hours and had a great time! Very helpful staff, helmets and boots included in rental, and map provided up front. First time snowmobiling and we loved it. Definitely want to make a return visit and would recommend to anyone vacationing/visiting Grand Lake.

Room Tip: Did not stay in a room - just rented snowmobiles.

There were five of us (in our 20s) and we rented three single snowmobiles and one double. The best part of the experience was the thrill of snowmobiling through the national forest. Snow conditions were deep and powdery off the trail (3 ft. of powder), but groomed trails easily manageable (one inch fresh powder). Temp. in the 20s F. (-5 C).

We paid for eight hours and used seven, stopping for lunch in Grand Lake.

Morning was about 4-5 hour trail run with perfect snow conditions. After lunch another two hours (snow not as perfect) playing around in an open play area off the trail.

Future trip advice: eight hours is a lot if not experienced already, but we enjoyed the full day. The half day option might be good for some groups, especially if you don't want to repeat a trail.

Snowmobiles were brand new SkiDoo 550s, and although enhanced-performance machines were available we rented the normal. People were nice, but one lady (the owner?) was hard to understand due to foreign accent (however talking to Cody was easier). Everybody was good at their jobs and the establishment is well run. They mentioned that the most-often damaged part of rental snowmobiles is usually the windscreen (due to tipping). But take note: our group only damaged the front bar (that looked like a tow bar) which was aluminum pull bar not intended to help tow out of a drift, e.g. tow strap from another snowmobile. It would be a good idea to have a small printed warning on the pull bar. Cost us $125 additional

Room Tip: We did not stay at the lodge, only rented snowmobiles.

I came out for a weekend with 2 of my friends from school in the middle of August. We were greeted by a lady with an accent at the front desk who was very helpful, she recommend and provided lots info about the local things to do like atv and horse back ride. Our room was perfect for 3 guys, had a room with 2 twins and a queen and was very clean. The outside was landscaped very nice and maintained very well. I would recommend spirit lake to any of my friends and family. Lodge can accommodate families and couples alike.

Room Tip: I recommend the room with the fireplace, they are very cozy and close to the hot tub

Spirit Lake Lodge was so nice to arrive at after arriving at Grandby nearby, on a long train ride.
Christina greeted us very kindly, the room was very clean and furnishings in excellent condition, as was the entire lodge. Within walking distance to everything in Grand Lake, it is charming and well located to explore the mountains, has good restaurants nearby as well as shops and groceries. Her kindness went well beyond the lodge, when I'd forgotten to pack my battery charger...! Without my asking her, Christina drove 16 miles down to Grandby, Co. to catch me before boarding the train. Unfortunately, it had just left when she arrived, so she sent it promptly to my home address and it arrived the day after I returned home. Yes, stay at Spirit Lake Lodge and you'll enjoy a wonderful place (...and person too!) to base while enjoying the Rocky mountains. We look forward to a return visit for sure !!!

Room Tip: Upper floor was quiet and had a nice view from the front room we enjoyed.
