My husband is on business in Grand Lake for 10 days, so we accompanied him to take advantage of the free hotel in a great location. The hotel is family friendly. There is a large screen TV in the main bar/eating area and there is free Wii for the guests to use. Plus a popcorn machine with free popcorn. There is also a game room downstairs (which we didn't take advantage of). We had a great room with a bunk bed for our kids and a double bed for us. There was a mini fridge in our room, too. All the furniture is log and fits the mountain cabin theme. There is a small mini-golf course out back, which my kids also enjoyed.

There are some signs around the main area that have profanities, so that would be one negative. I could do without having to explain 4-letter expletives to my 5 and 7 years olds.

We did use the hot tub one afternoon, but I was kind of grossed out b/c it wasn't very clean. There were small flies floating around in it and there was brown scum along one side of the tub (inside). We didn't use the hot tub again. I got the impression that they were severely understaffed, so I didn't bother to say anything.

The exterior of the hotel could use a bit of landscaping - lots of weeds everywhere which detracts from the initial impression.

Very nicely decorated rooms with balcony & view of Grand Lake. Very theme oriented. Great assortment of items available for "Continental Breakfast" - breakfast burritos/sandwiches available in dining room refrigerator, except no frozen waffles. The front desk clerk was very friendly and accomodating.

Management response from Gatewayinn, General Manager

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. It is so nice to have people who write positive comments. It is easy to get negative write ups (not that we get many) but most people who are satisfied with their stay do not take the time to comment. I take comments like this as a thank you from my guests. My turn to thank you...THANKS!

The Gateway Inn, nestled a half mile from the west entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park.
Here you are greated by great people who care and make time to answer questions and treat you like friends and family.
The rooms are all in knotty pine including the beds, dresser and other furnishings. The pourch over looks picturesque Grand Lake and the town of Grand Lake. A great place to just relax,or have something to drink or enjoy their continental breakfast.
A place you will want to return to again and again. The place is great, the location is perfect and all located in God's Country(the Rocky Mountains)!
Thanks for a great place to stay.

Eric,

Thank you so much for the review! I hope all is well for you in Denver. Are you working now that you have your RN? I bet you are glad to be done with school. I sure hope to see you this winter. Take care.

My husband and I needed a place to stay for one nite, after leaving Estes Park and driving through RMNP. We got a wonderful room with a bit of a lake view, and overlooking the patio dining area. Also, it was quite warm during our travels; and this may be the ONLY lodging in Grand Lake with air-conditioning in every room....definitely ask, if you are staying elsewhere! We really liked being away from the touristy/shopping district of Grand Lake; it was just a short drive away. Every staff person we encountered was beyond professional, personal and courteous. They offered great tips on dining experiences, and the various highways to take to our next destination. With the great service and beautiful weather, we could not have asked for more.

We try to stay at the Gateway Inn every year. We always feel rested and relaxed after our stay. The rooms are cozy and comfortable. We have always had mountain or lake view and loved the view. The front desk staff has always treated us like we were welcome. Our last stay we tried the resturant and bar and the whole family LOVED the food and entertainment althought it took over an hour to get our food but we understood that they were having issues with the grill and the kids enjoyed the popcorn. The location is perfect and a walk away from town. We love staying at the Gateway and will recommend to others.
