“Comfortable stay with nice lake view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We stayed here 2 nights during offseason in early April. Because of this, we were able to stay for $170 total. For that price the room had king size bed, balcony, and lake view from the top floor. They are rustic lodge style, everywhere was clean and neat. There are a lot of antique furnishings and a lot of stuffed wild animals. Furthermore, they have dry sauna and outdoor jacuzzi. Sauna needs preheating before using. Taking them at evening made us really comfortable!! Although we didn't use it, also have exercise room)
Staff was very friendly and welcoming. We didn't have high expectation though the breakfast service was sufficient! Please check my photos of breakfast items. The lounging area has shuffle board, several kinds of games for children including chess and card game. Our only beef was the free wifi was somtimes doesn't work well. Overall we felt very relax and comfortable during our stay. I'm not sure what the prices would be in high season.

Room Tip: Needs request the lake view room

*tips: don't go to happy hour at this hotel, go into town and get much better drinks for a much better price. Hot tub is luke warm. Staff rude.
After reading reviews I now understand why so many comment on the hehe ruse staff.
After reading all the reviews about this hotel I was more than excited to take my boyfriend on a surprise weekend trip to the Gateway inn. we drove 3 hours to get there and upon arrival were checked in by the male bartender who didn't tell us "welcome" or to "enjoy our stay" he simply acted annoyed we were bothering him. Our hotel keys quit working 3 times, we had to go to the desk to ask for new keys and only once did the lady appologize. Every staff member we encountered was not kind to us, nor did they make us feel welcome.
We decided to attend happy hour on Saturday evening upon which our drinks were $8 a pop for two long islands....$8 a drink during happy hour?! My boyfriend commented on the price and they rude bartender lady snickered back "ya but there is a lot of alcohol in that!" My boyfriend watched her make the drinks and said she barely poured anything in.
If you are excited to use the hot tub then be prepared to be disappointed, the hot tub was lukewarm the entire stay and all the guests that were in the tub with us were annoyed. It felt repulsive to sit in Luke warm, nasty water.
The breakfast was worse than expected, I know it was supposed to be a quick easy, on the go breakfast. If you don't get there before 9 all the good stuff will be gone. The breakfast room is too small for more than one person.
I have never in my life experienced such awful customer service. I believe it must be because we are a young couple. All I have to say is if the entire staff at this hotel thinks it is okay to treat young people this badly, they need to realize people in our age range have the most disposable income and should be treated just as well as any other patron of this hotel.
I am sad we wasted our money staying here but am happy that we were able to go into town, and enjoy each other after being consitently treated awfully by the staff. Being ripped off. Sitting in a lukewarm hot tub. And not experiencing what I was so looking forward to.

We’d like to start off with an apology for the issues that occurred during your stay here at the Gateway Inn. We have addressed the staff about how we like our guests to feel while they enjoy their time with us. We really enjoy having young couples as yourself to enjoy the Rocky Mountains and some of the great hiking in our area. We also provide games in the family friendly lounge to entice our guests to be involved and get to know each other. We love to meet new people!
In regards to the room keys, we are looking into a system that is less temperamental and understand that this can and is an issue in many hotels including ours. They are easily deactivated which can be frustrating but is a fact of the matter.
We made calls around to local businesses to check pricing on long islands because we don’t claim to be the cheapest but we certainly aren’t the most expensive. The happy hour cost for long islands are $7.50-$8.50 and we come in at $8.00. There are 5 types of alcohol in this specific drink.
Our complimentary breakfast is served from 7 am until 11 am and during busy times it does go quickly but we are more than happy to replenish these items when needed. Sometimes it does take us a reminder to get it stocked up.
As far as the hotels hot tub we have records showing the drain and fills for it. Our maintenance staff checks the chemical levels 3 times in a 24 hour period and also does a temperature reading to be consistent with the Certified Pool and Spa Operator certification. The only reasons the hot tub may have been lukewarm is due to the cover being left off for a long period of time in our very cold climate or if water is splashed out it does make the circulation jets kick off so the motor doesn't burn up.
With this being said we cannot remedy any issues if we are not aware of them. Please let us know and we will work diligently on fixing the problem or problems. We like to have our guests feel at home here at the Gateway Inn and welcome you back in the future. Hopefully with a better experience.

We spent several nights at the Gateway Inn, and found it extremely comfortable. We loved the balcony and the easy walk or drive into town. The room was clean, and the refrigerator and microwave made it easy to manage leftovers from the restaurants in town. We enjoyed happy hour at the bar in the lobby and on the shared balcony as well.

What a BEAUTIFUL place! Peaceful and relaxing with gorgeous views! Went on a whim with a Groupon because we just wanted to get out of the house. We live in Ft. Collins and I thought this was on "our" side of the Rockies......(Estes Park)- after looking at map I realized it was on the other side- and with Trail Ridge Rd was closed for the season- a 90 minute trip turned into 3 1/2 hours (we had to go down and around the Rockies).....BOY WAS IT WORTH IT! To break up the trip we stopped at Hot Sulphur Springs (that's another review)- then pulled up to this wonderful Log Cabin Type "hotel". The check in was a breeze (if they are not busy- ask for an upgrade- they will do it complimentary -if you ask for it -and they have the rooms available). We went up to our King Canopy lodge pole bedroom with a fireplace facing the mountains and lake. Nothing about this room felt like a "hotel" more like a guest room in friends house......very clean- and my husband loved that there was a sleep mask, and ear plugs on each night stand. Bed was SUPER comfortable! After unpacking (and still incredibly relaxed from the Springs) we headed to the bar- which is an experience itself! Huge deck overlooking mountains, and lake- firepits- where if you ask the bartender he will turn on fire outside and provide you with "s'more kits" complimentary, family games, and furniture that again makes you feel more like you're at home. I had a Bloody Mary- while we watched the hockey game on one of the many tvs- BEST BLOODY MARY I have had in a long time!!!!! Service was great! Very friendly! So between the atmosphere, the games, the drinks......we were so comfortable- we just stayed there instead of going out that night. Did I mention they have an outdoor hot tub, and a sauna? Yes- we hit them both. Sauna- very clean....and they had changed water in hot tub the day we were there......it was 9* out with a full moon- stunning. (Bring a robe though if you have one- was so cold my flip flops froze while I was in tub :)
Now- for the "Cons" that some have mentioned- yes- not ALL rooms can face the mountains or lake......however; if that ruins your trip- you are spending WAY to much time in your room- go down to the "living room bar"........second- yes the breakfast area if very small, but have some coffee, juice, a croissant - and go into town 2 blocks away for breakfast.......those are about the only things that might "bother" some- but we enjoyed ourselves so much- I didn't notice anything that would damper our trip! They even have moose that walk among the grounds at times. We only stayed one night unfortunately- but I would've loved to stay a week or more!!! So much to do even in winter!! Close to Winter Park Skiing and not too far from Steamboat. Cute little town near by- bring your snowmobiles- or rent.......hike in the Rockies (bring/rent snowshoes)......you won't regret going! (In fact- before they were gone- I snapped up a few more Groupons ).

We had a room with king size bed and balcony facing the lake and mountains, absolutely beautiful! The staff was kind and helpful and we enjoyed our time in the lounge. A lovely "rustic" place to stay and it was also our first time in Grand Lake which we thoroughly enjoyed. Loved going out in the snow to the hot tub. Unfortunately the fire pits wouldn't like so I didn't get any s'mores, but I love that they were available to us. We will definitely be back!

The room with a king size bed and balcony was very clean and comfy. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. This was our first visit to Grand Lake area and it didn't disappoint. The hotel is located very close to the lake and 2 miles away from nordic center (for skiing/tubing in the winter time). We stayed at the hotel during out family ski trip and we were very glad that it had a sauna and a hot tub to soak in/relax after full day at the trails. The winter park is about 40 min away, Granby ranch is 20-25, and there are plenty of other resorts available within a short driving distance. Will definitely stay at Gateway Inn again in the future.
