“Good Value for the Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

Almost did not stay here due to other reviews. I am very glad I stayed the 4 days. Had no problems at all. Bed was fine and had no problems with the front desk. This on one of few palces in grand lake that has air conditioning. I would also recommend room 30 the the view It is on the second floor and has a view of the board walk. With a great flow of air into the room.

Room Tip: Choose room 30 for a window with a view. and air flow at night.

We wanted a guaranteed place to stay and Grand Lake looked like a nice town. The hotel was dated, but seemed clean. They had limited hot tub hours so by the time we checked in, the hot tub was closed. The coffee was nice in the morning, but the store bought/packaged pastries was OK. Bottom line it seemed like a lot of money for what we received. The web site reservation advertised a 15% discount which was never offered or received. If in the area again, I would spend the money on a bed and breakfast.

Room Tip: Better breakfast or less cost for the room.

Clean rooms, a little musty smelling. Beds were old and very uncomfortable. No water pressure in the shower or the toliet. When the neighbors are in the shower we had NO hot water. Breakfast started way to late for anyone that was doing anything in Rocky Mtn Natl Park (8a - 10a). Front staff was not polite and was rather abrupt and rude...give me your credit card, here is your key and breakfast is at 8am. I would go elsewhere if I return to the area. Close to town, but town isn't but a few blocks long.

Upon arrival, we were given a room on the second floor. I then requested a room on the first floor fully expecting not to get one since they were full. However, i was pleasantly surprised when the gentleman at the front desk told me he'd see what he could do to accomodate me, and after leaving for a couple minutes, came back with a key to a first floor room.

The first thing I check for in a hotel room is if it is clean. Thankfully, it was. The flat-screens have DVD players in them and our kids loved that because we forgot our DVD player! They also had A/C which was HUGE.

We did have some noisy neighbors, though. Also, when we checked-in, we couldn't park our car next to our room because they were fixing something on the parking lot so we had to walk a little ways to our room.

Overall, we had a pleasant stay and plan on coming back.

The rooms are clean and provide all the basic amenities. However, they have an old rustic feel which is probably intentional to match the overall image of the quaint town. Nevertheless could use a little bit of renovations. Stayed there for 2 nights while on a trip to RMNP. All the restaurants and ski rentals are more or less a few minutes walk away. Overall a decent value for money.

If you are looking for a clean, comfortable room for a stay in Grand Lake, Bighorn Lodge may be just the place for you. Its not fancy, just a basic clean comfortable place to stay. After all, in Grand Lake you should be out enjoying the scenery and the town, not sitting in your room. It has most of the basics - TV, microwave, small refrigerator. The only thing missing is an in-room coffee maker.

The bed was one of the most comfortable I have experienced in a hotel. I really liked having a ceiling fan in the room. It offered good air circulation and just the right cooling effect to not need the air conditioner. It seemed a bit 'pricey', but considering it was June in a summer resort town, it was in line with the competition.

Honestly I can't remember staying at a cleaner hotel its certainly one of their strong points. Rooms could use a little revamp and there's not much in them, but the location and overall value makes it worth staying here.
