We just spent two nights in the Wild Rose at Pine Cone Cottages, one of three well-equipped, comfortable log cabins, in the high country resort town of Grand Lake. The cozy cabins are located just across Park Avenue from the Grand Lake Town Park, which features the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre and the local library. Grand Avenue, with numerous restaurants and shops, is only a block away. And the lake itself is just a two-block walk. The property's owner, a schoolteacher named Janet, lives in the fourth, and largest, cabin on the property, and is an engaging and meticulous innkeeper. The Wild Rose has a comfy Queen bed, couch, table & chairs, satellite TV with 120 channels, and a kitchen with sink, coffeemaker, refrigerator and range-top for cooking (no stove or microwave). Dishes, glasses, pans and tableware are provided for eating in (or across the street in the park). The bathroom (with shower) is snug, but this is, after all, a cabin with a good many years on it, and the rusticity is welcome. The Wild Rose rented for $115/night, which is an excellent value given the cabin's coziness and location, along with the time of year (just after the Fourth of July weekend). Both the Wild Rose and the Misty Fern have sufficient space for two (the third cabin is slightly larger), so if you're looking for romantic lodging in Grand Lake, this is where you want to be!
