I was just wanting a place to spend a couple of nights in the Grand County area and ran across this one online. The prices are well below Winter Park/Fraser area which is about 15 miles away. This sleeper is near the back entrance to Rocky Mtn Nat'l Park (which is the best side in my opinion) and smack in the middle of Granby. If you haven't sampled the attitudes in Granby you haven't tasted the way life is meant to be lived (leave the east coast attitudes behind please). The people are soft spoken and friendly but don't mind leaving you alone.
The proprietors, Jack & Donna, are unobtrusively attentive. The rooms are spotless and well maintained. I have stayed in two different rooms. Each has extremely responsive radiator heat (no clanking pipes here), dining area, microwave, refrigerator, and large TV with satellite. The warm real Canadian pine panelling is cozy, the beds are comfortable, and one way or the other sounds are not transferred like the other hotels in town. The bathrooms are absolutely spotless with plenty of hot water and the towels are fresh and thick.
Did I mention that this is advertised as a "Bed and Bagel"? Breakfast is severed in a room converted for that purpose. Plenty of toasters, a micro, orange and V8 juice, fresh fruit, a variety of bagels, creme cheese, butter, etc. etc. they also had three different Danishes . Everything was easy, friendly, and spotless. They have trays for you to take your findings back to the room with slots for the coffee/ juice. BTW, the coffee is excellent.
Be sure to catch The Cafe down the street for lunch (Jack's suggestion and a good one)... Great soups, salads, and sandwiches, teas, etc.
Whether you are headed to the park, Grand Lake, skiing (any kind is nearby), snowshoeing, Mtn biking (there is a bike shop with rentals just down the street), or just wanting some downtime you won't come away disappointed with The Trail Riders.
Look for the white picket fence and front porch motel on the right just in the center of town.
There are cheaper places in town (I have stayed in a couple listening to the snoring next door) but I wouldn't stay anywhere else in this area. Great values.
