I know it sounds crazy, but the number two sushi chef at Sushi Uokura--after the owner, Ogi--is Jesus. He's been there a long time and is very, very good.
We've been going to Sushi Uokura for years. It's in a funky old river rock house off of US 40. We like the sushi and the other menu items equally well. Everything is always fresh and well-prepared. The lunch combinations and the the sushi assorment on the sushi menu are especially well-priced. On standard US holidays, like Christmas and Mothers' Day, where sushi doesn't fit the bill for most, it's all-you-can-eat sushi and other Japanese dishes. Bring your unconventional friends.
Sometimes the funkiness seems a bit much. There is insufficient heat for the sushi bar on really cold days, and the restrooms seem to have been lifted from a 7-11. but the food is always worth the trip.
