“nice hotel beside the Colorado River”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2014

Our family of 6 stayed here for 2 nights in a 2 queen suite with sofabed. We went river rafting at the Glenwood Canyon Rafting Inc (10% discount for hotel customers) which is right next door so after our 1/2 day rafting trip ended we were right beside our hotel....that was so convenient. The pool and hot tub were cooler than average. Breakfast was good and included scrambled eggs and hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, apple and orange juice, good variety of cereal, oranges, apples, bananas, waffles, and a cool pancake maker. Our room seemed clean enough but we found a cigarette butt and ashes on top of the a/c-heater unit by the window which confirmed why it had a slight smoked-in smell. Wi-fi was spotty and the was a fridge and microwave in our room. There is a Dairy Queen Grill and Chill nearby.

Nice hotel and the location next to the river is nice. They have a nice patio to sit by the river and there is a nice walk that goes along the river. It was nice to be able to open our window and listen to the river and enjoy the fresh air. We enjoyed our there very much. There is a DQ next door that also sat right on the river. There is a raft company located there as well.

Room Tip: Get a room on the river side.

Spotless, nice staff, great room. Highly recommend. Could be a bit closer to the town, but still only two to three minute drive. The staff was great. Pool was clean, rooms clean. Great breakfast selections for free!

We stay here to go skiing and visit different attraction in the area mainly the hot springs. The hotel had a nice feeling, clean and well organize, rooms were pretty big with a sofa bed that came in very handy, swimming pool was clean and well located indoors, the complementary breakfast was good, a lot better than your average hotel like this one. We would stay here again.

We stayed here with two of our kids and our granddaughter (in two separate rooms; good prices allowed this.) The beds were comfortable, the staff was responsive and friendly, the breakfast included eggs and meat, and the coffee in the lobby is hot and fresh. They have a nice pool and hot tub (the hot tub could stand to be a few degrees warmer, but there are a lot of kids here, so it makes sense to keep it a bit cooler.) It's right by the river. If you're on the river side, don't leave your window open at night: that 2 a.m. coal train will definitely wake you up :)

We had a great stay here.

This hotel has great potential...great location on the river, has a deck, a grill, a pool and is near the newer shopping in Glenwood. However, the management has no standards. We have stayed in multiple locations in Glenwood and tried this place out in July, 2014 because of the price...we are a family of five and paying for all the great attractions in Glenwood plus staying in a hotel becomes pricey, so we are always looking for the best value. If that's what you are, read on!

First of all, during our stay the carpets are visibly filthy...to the point that you don't feel safe in your bare feet. Our room had stains on the sheets when we arrived and the room was noticeably damp...so damp that your pillows and sheets feel slightly wet...our in-laws room was across the hall and wasn't as damp, but they had a sticky, greasy substance on their chairs and the staff had to bring goo gone to get it off. Know this, the staff was trying...it's mostly young guys at the desk who seem unsure. But the first day after checking in and letting the manager know about the sheets and the sticky chairs got us 20$ off our bill...management wasn't alarmed or appalled by our complaints and did not even ask how to make it better...even after I told him my hairdryer didn't work...he just offered the one time 20$ and did not make any effort to fix the hairdryer or the dampness in our room.

The breakfast was good but understaffed...the thing we were looking forward to was using the deck and the grill...so we didn't have to eat out every single night. So, the deck has a large over hanging tree that needs groomed...that leaves the birds to do their duty on the tables...so every morning we ate breakfast out there you had to wash down the tables yourself and an occasional feather would come down onto your plate...they just don't keep it up. So then we open the grill on the third night and it is completely rusted out...burners and all...even the gas ignition button is gone! So, we ask the staff what's the deal...and they send us across the street to their sister hotel Glenwood Suites to use their grill. No apology or remedy for their own grill...I'm sure it still sits there rotting!

We had to stay for the three nights we reserved because everything in town was booked...that's Glenwood's peak season. So, on the fourth night (a Sunday) we decided to stay one more night and found a vacancy at the Hanging Lake Inn...a quaint little motel across the highway from the Quality Inn. What offended me to no end was that this little place has no pool, no bells and whistles, no river view like the Quality Inn...but so clean you could eat off the floors in your room! The Quality Inn has the support of a large hotel chain (Clarion) behind them and the standards were subpar...the Hanging Lake Inn is a family owned business with no corporate support and their standards for service and cleanliness make them the best value in Glenwood.

Because I have kids...my priority is the safety and sanitary standards of somewhere I take my family...I will never be back to this Quality Inn...the management's standards there has shamed Clarion brand to me forever...it will be a long time before I attempt to stay at one of their locations again. I will be back to the Hanging Lake Inn over and over...it's in town, reasonably priced and we were friendly with the owner after just one day...and it was less than 100$ a night!

Now, I don't do many reviews but I look at many reviews as I did with this place to make a decision on a place I've never been. I decided to write this one because I don't want the better reviews on this site to steer another family wrong.

Get it together Clarion...replace this management with someone who cares or accept that your reputation will continue to tarnish in Glenwood.

Room Tip: Don't stay at this hotel until they raise their standards....the better value is Hanging Lake In...

We had to cut our stay short due to one of the kids getting a bad case of heat rash. The staff was very understanding so leaving early was no problem and no charge. Good breakfast with plenty of seating in the dining room, lobby or outside by the river. Only negative, for me, coffee and cup not replaced in the room. Ok, just had to walk downstairs to get a cup of coffee. Would 100 % stay here again.
