We had a nice stay at the Hotel Denver this past summer. We stayed in a "Denver" room and found it to be clean, comfortable, and attractively furnished, though a bit small. The rooms are new, and the furnishings and decor are new and modern. We had nice big windows and a view of the Colorado River. The lobby is also nice and the staff was helpful. I would not recommend the attached brewery, however. The food we had from there was pretty bland and of poor quality. However, if you are a fan of Mexican food, we did eat at a place in town called Tequila's. My husband swears this was the best meal of his life and is still talking about it! Overall, this is a nice place to stay, and the price is reasonable.

We stayed at the Hotel Denver on the way to the Telluride Film Festival. It was one of the highlights of the trip. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The place itself is kind of funky in a good way. It has character and a sense of age.

I honestly do not understand the other comment about the creepy lobby and hallways. The place is charming. Next time, we'll try to spend more time in Glenwood Springs.

“Family of 19 and a successful stay”

Our large family stay in Glenwood has been a yearly occurrence for decades, this year for a change in habit we decided to stay at the Hotel Denver. We started out as a party of 24 and by about 24hrs before our stay we were reduced to 19 with varying departures. I must have called the hotel staff about 6 or 8 times making changes, confirming and reconfirming, they were consistently pleasant and accomodating with a very complex group; and their up-to-24hrs-in-advance change without charge policy was my financial saving grace.

We took 6 rooms including the penthouse and cupola suites, 2 regular suites, and two colorado rooms. Each room is very distinctive which makes arranging people both variable and complex until you get a visual of the place. The cupola suite is very spacious on two floors with a patio hot tub, one bathroom, one enclosed bedroom and one bed in the living room. On the other hand the penthouse suite is very small with one bed, but a very nice patio w/hot tub. The regular suties and colorado rooms don't really hold much difference except for the minibar, though where one room would have one two beds in the same room another would have two beds and two bathrooms saparated; if you have a precision number of people to accomodate you just have to call and talk to the staff they will guide you through it.

Views and furniture in this hotel are stunning, some of the 80's remodeling leaves to be desired, but I imagine insulating the place in winter was an intricate set of choices between decor and practicality. The surrounding restaurants and bridge to the hot springs pool are very convenient, and it's great to get big free towels from the hotel, while the pool charges $2 for starchy face towel sized ripoffs.

Overall we were very satisfied and plan to return to the Denver next year.

I have just read the July review and wonder why people have such different views of the same place. Admittedly, the Hotel Denver looked old-fashioned but it was clean, comfortable and the staff were both friendly and helpful to us. Our room was on the inside with no outside windows, therefore it was quiet all the time. The corridors were definitely not creepy but the hotel is enormous. All bathroom tiles are slippery when wet so that wasn't a surprise - just stand on the bath mat! There were many places for breakfast close to the hotel and also very good restaurants for dinner. The Hot Springs pool is a must as it is fantastic (but expensive) and well worth a visit. You have to walk across the bridge and round the block but if you don't like walking, just take the car. Our only complaint was that the bedroom lighting was poor with no lights round the mirror or reading lights between the two beds.

We stayed at the Denver Hotel based on all the great reviews here. We were very disappointed. The hotel building might be historic, but the interior was remodeled in 1985 with wall to wall carpeting, 80's color schemes, cheap accostic tile dropped ceilings, and horrible florescent lighting throughout. Our "Colorado" room (more expensive) was very crowded with giant pieces of furniture, the so-called view was just of the train tracks, plus it was noisy until 3 am because of the bar across the street. The lobby and hallways were just creepy. The front desk people were fairly friendly, but always unhelpful when we had questions (were to eat) or needs (were could we get an umbrella). But, we had a GREAT breakfast at Hotel Colorado nearby and asked to see a room just to compare. Their rooms were gorgeous and the whole place is elegant with gardens, a nice lobby and lovely decor. Stay there instead!
