“Love the 'Berg - Each unit has its own personality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

We stayed here for a weekend in the off season and loved it! The facility was built in the 60s and feels like an old Austrian chalet. The new management was doing a lot of work on the grounds and the common areas. New carpet in the gameroom (loved the pool table and foosball and lodge fireplace) - new copper looking roof - the hot tub seemed newer. For the price you can't beat it in the Roaring Fork Valley and on a mountain side just minutes from Glenwood Springs and a beautiful drive up valley to Aspen.

Make sure to check out their revamped web site and look through each unit carefully as it seems like each condo is individually owned and each owner has put their own design touch into their unit. Some have been updated more recently than others. We called the front office and they were very helpful. Can't wait to stay again during ski season! Love the 'Berg!

Room Tip: A8 is really nice!

Without owning your own chalet in the middle of a ski area, it is physically impossible to get any closer lodging to an actual ski slope. The Brettelberg Condos literally sit on the edge of the Sunlight Mountain ski area. When you step off the end of the deck on the west side of the condo, you are actually stepping onto the ski slope. This is LITERALLY the definition of ski-in/ski-out.

We stayed in unit F6 which had a tremendous view of the valley and ski base area. You can't beat taking your skis off at the end of the deck and walking the length of 3 rooms to get to your room. It makes using the restroom, eating lunch, changing clothes so easy compared to your "normal" ski area in the U.S.

Yes, the facilities would be described as "older" and "family". That's what makes this place so special. If you are going to Colorado for the hopping night life or party activities, stay away from here and go to Aspen or Vail. If you need fancy restaurants and lots of things to keep you busy, again, stay away from here. But, if you are a serious skier and want the absolute best situation for skiing, THIS IS THE PLACE!

Sunlight mountain is a 2000' vertical drop mountain. Heavy on the Blue runs which is what I like. But, it has Ute, the longest trail in Colorado as a stellar Green run. If you like the double diamond Black runs, Sunlight has an ungroomed, "wild" area that ate my lunch.

The ultimate family ski area, it is the perfect ski slope to let your kids go off on their own. All runs funnel back to the same base area so it's impossible to get lost. I can't recommend this ski area and lodging enough. It is truly a hidden secret known to very few. And, that's the way the town of Glenwood Springs wants it. They want their little ski are to be a hidden gem. And it is.

Room Tip: E, F or A levels have the best views if possible. I would stay away from the B or D levels just due...

While being the only ski in/ski out accomodations on Sunlight Ski area is nice, the accomodations are a lot like staying in a 1960's motel. The room was okay for sleeping, but the small tube TV, the old appliances and fixtures, all left a lot to be desired. The staff I encountered were very nice, but there's just not a lot of ammenities to go along with your room.

I might stay again, just because of the ease of skiing from this location, but that would be the only reason I would go back.

Our family had never been to this area of Colorado before, but we will make this a place to stay again! Great views very clean and the staff was helpful to all our needs.
We found plenty of daily activities in the area that keep all entertained and the condo unit we stayed in meet all our needs with comfort. What we enjoyed most was not feeling like we were in a over crowded tourist resort. The condos have everything you need to prepare meals so do all shopping on the way, park the car and enjoy life at a relaxed and restful pace.

After reading some not so good reviews, we were a little concerned about the overall condition of the condos. But, we decided to stay anyway, and we are so glad we did!!!! The property is under new management, and the couple is GREAT. They have painted the entire building, put on a new roof, replaced the decks and railings, replaced the coil in the hot tub, and the list goes on. The only problem we had was finding the office.(They had taken down the signs to Paint, so it wont be an issue for long) It is the only ski-in, ski-out resort on Sunlight Mountain. All of the condos have a full kitchen with all of the pots, pans, dishes etc. that you need. Full size oven and Fridge as well. So stop in town and stock up. Cooking your own meals is a great way to save money. They also have nice, big charcoal grills on the decks for your use. The rec room has a fireplace, pooltable, and a variety of boardgames. The views are awesome, and the staff is excellent. I would highly reccomend The Bretelberg to anyone looking to get away. We will definately be back year after year.

Animal crap in the walkways, springs in couch broken, musty smelling, furniture is dirty. We booked accommodations for 5 and the sofa bed was broken.
