We drove out on a family trip from Southern California the first week of August and had a great time in this beautiful location.
We rented both a family cabin and a tent down by the river. My wife was super excited with the cabin it was basic but real cozy gas grill on the deck was perfect for nice BBQs at the end of the day.
One complaint would be that our deck faced directly at our neighbors bedroom window....never had a problem but don't like walking on eggshells when on vacation...we are conscientious so probably shut it down earlier than I would have liked.
Sleeping accomodations were just fine....I slept up in loft with my son a couple of nights and it was fine....not 5 star but we are used to camping so this was plenty comfortable. The bedroom with queen bed was fine as well. My 22 yr old daughter and friend got the tent down by the river unbelievably beautiful....but as you've read countless times the Train is running through multiple times a nigh,t for me that old train adds charm and character to the place my kid said it as pretty loud if you are a light sleeper be warned.
Customer service from our standpoint was great...I would like to acknowledge Kali? Cali? anyhow regardless of spelling the young lady who worked in the office was nothing but polite and professional all my dealings with her were first rate. I didn't get much of a chance to talk to Kevin but as a business owner I observed him put out several "small fires" running a place like this with so much going on someone's always complaining about something...Kevin seemed to do a good job of getting out in front of problems and owning responsibility of things that probably weren't his fault.....in other words he was able to keep his cool and give people room to vent.
Sara and my other bartender whose name escapes me were both rock stars and hooked us up nicely at the bar....had a few appetizers and a burger that came with my package that were delicious better than I expected for bar faire.
Rafting trip Double Shoshone is the call so much fun and all skill levels can do this took my 65 MIL and she was fine my 11 yr old son was in heave as was my 22yrold daughter. Tyler was our guide and he gave us a fun trip. Did the biking along the river it was neat.. Hanging Lake hike was great, and it even winded this kid from "sea level". We also did the Hot Springs, and rode the Giant Canyon Swing at the adventure park....Had a shot of Whiskey at Doc Holliday's grave site.
So my only real piss and moan is that the Resort Fees are excessive...I spent a lot of $ on cabin and am used to seeing some resort fee on final bill but these guys ding you every time you pay for something.....was a little hot that after dropping a $120.00on drinks at the bar that you added on another $15.00 save that kind of fee for people not staying with you... just my 2 cents or $3000.00 however you want to look at it.
In closing Awesome Location, Good people, better than average accomodations but a little pricey? So if you don't a few bucks you will probably be happier elsewhere...If you have the money to go big do so get the big pkg of activities and cdrom that they sell documenting said activities(great photos btw will be a real treasure for the family down the road) enjoy the beauty and make sure you have a cocktail while watching the sun go down on the Rocky Mountains if you never get that opportunity you're missing out!!
