Bottom Line --- Fun experience with a great bunch of totally professional pilots even for someone from Iowa with a fear of heights like me. Don’t hesitate – go for it but don’t expect everything to go on schedule since you are definitely at the mercy of the wind & weather. Hang loose and you’ll have a blast – short flight video here http://youtu.be/1PQHe8llBhU
More --- They pick up and drop off in downtown Glenwood Springs. Pick up was delayed because the previous group had poor wind conditions for take-off. This is just normal for a weather dependent activity so don’t plan to do this on a tight schedule. On the way up to the take off location our driver, herself an experienced paraglider, was able to answer all our newbie questions and generally calm any first time fears.
Our pilots were completely professional and clearly explained exactly what we should do and expect during takeoff. My excellent pilot A.J., and Pete, another of the pilots in our group are Colorado flight distance record holders. Like the previous group we had poor wind conditions for takeoff, it was very calm with little headwind, so we had to wait for the wind and run as you can see in the video.
Once in the air we caught some great updrafts and soared so that soon we were well above the takeoff zone. From then on the ride was awesome. Landing was easy thanks to A.J. An outstanding experience – you have to try it!
