I hiked up to Hanging Lake with 2 teenagers. We love this hike...its a bit difficult and I don't recommend it for anyone with knee issues. Also remember this is at higher elevation so if you aren't used to it go slow.
The hike itself is lovely, you are surrounded by the forest through the whole trip and its always nice and shaded.
Once you get to the lake, its more of a pond with crystal clear water and a waterfall...this is protected. It is a unique ecosystem so for the love of whoever you believe in...don't touch the water, don't put your hands in it, don't try to walk on the fallen tree out into it...you will slip, your foot/shoe will go in. The oils and germs can damage this fragile system.
I'm a Coloradoan, we are very protective our our environment and others like me have no problems yelling at people that are damaging it or not watching their children as they try putting hands/feet in. So enjoy the beauty of this lake but do not touch!!!
