“Excellent value, great hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Just returned from a wonderful break at Cross farm cottages. Fab location away from city center so can have good nights sleep, but close enough to go shopping and enjoy restaurants. Lin and Stan extend fab hospitality, nothing is too much trouble for them. What a wonderful couple! Cottages absolutely spotless and have everything you could possibly want, including scrabble and other games which me and my family enjoyed. Within walking distance is a wonderful and reasonable gastro pub. Great service there and fab food! Will definitely be going back!

Warm, cosy and clean what more can you want! Excellent location for many National Trust properties, we visited Speke Hall and Rufford Old Hall. Both being less than 30 mins away. As my daughter is at Edge Hill Uni this cottage provided us with the ideal solution to visit her and enabling me to cook for her! Hotels do not give you that opportunity . Lynn and Stan were perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble. We shall return as daughter has two years left!

We stayed at Cross Farm in Feb 2013. As a family of 4 Swallow Cottage was ideal for us, this well equipped cottage was like home from home. Lin & Stan have thought of everything you need to ensure your stay is comfortable. The kitchen & wet room are modern, functional, clean & well equipped. The cottage was warm, cosy & bright. The location was a great base for so many places within 20 mins to an hour drive. Linda & Stan are so helpful & friendly making your stay really great. A really good find!!

We have used many self catering cottages in this area as we originate from there and visit family and this is by far the best facility that we have come across. The cottages are finished to a very high standard and the beds (plus duvet, pillows etc) are extremely comfortable. The best we have come across!! The bathroom is superb and cooking facilities have everything you need.
Stan and Linda are fantastic hosts, they make you feel at home from the first minute and nothing is too much trouble.
Great position for touring as it is handy for Southport, Ormskirk, Liverpool, and further afield such as Chester, North Wales, Manchester, South Lakes, etc.
Would definitely go back and recommend to all our friends and family.

Hosts are amazing nothing to much trouble . Great central place to stay lots of places to visit whatever way you go.The cottages are clean, warm amd comfortable and had everything you need for a great break.
Southport and formby beach really nice. Liverpool City was great, really good selection of shops, bars and places to eat and a great Public Transport service from just outside the accomodation.
Would recommend to anyone because if not there Stan and Linda will do there best to get it sorted for you.

My husband and I are from Ormskirk and arrived here with our four day old daughter straight from the hospital as our house was in the final stages of extensive renovations. We stayed for just under two weeks.

The cottage was lovely: clean, spacious, tastefully decorated with high ceilings and lots of light. The fact that everything is on one level and there was a wet room was ideal for me whilst I recovered from my caesarean section. The kitchen was well-equipped with everything you could need and more for a self-catering holiday. There was plenty of extra pillows and blankets in the bedroom. The open plan living dining room included a flat screen tv, DVD player, DVDs and books etc and opened out via double French windows onto a verandah with table and chairs and a spectacular view over the surrounding countryside. There was a laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer, a clothes horse in the cottage and an iron and ironing board which you can use in your cottage. There was free fast WiFi, which was handy given the rural setting. There was free parking just outside the cottages. I was also impressed that each cottage had recycling facilities.

There are three cottages and we stayed in Red Squirrel. All of the cottages are wheelchair friendly and quiet - our next door neighbours confirmed they hadn't heard the baby crying once! Our cottage felt very private.

Within a short walking distance is the Scarisbrick Arms pub, from which we got lovely takeaway almost every night! There are farm shops, tea rooms, the Leeds to Liverpool canal and great walking routes in the countryside nearby. The location is convenient for Ormskirk, Formby, Southport and Liverpool. (My husband and I have previously walked along the canal to the Scarisbrick Arms from Burscough, from which you can hire a canal boat for the day.)

From the start, owners Lin and Stan did everything they could to make us welcome, comfortable and ensure that we had everything we needed, nothing was too much trouble. They were particularly mindful of the new baby, with Stan even offering to defer mowing the lawn if the noise was disturbing her! They are a genuine and lovely couple and made our stay completely hassle-free; exactly what we needed as we got to grips with parenthood!

Ormskirk is short on hotels and when you compare the price of these cottages - with which you get a living/dining room and kitchen, well-proportioned rooms throughout, outside space, lovely views, peace and quiet, privacy, and a personal service from the hosts - with local hotels, there really is no contest.

Overall, the cottage was comfortable, convenient and relaxing. We have booked the cottage for friends and relatives coming to visit the baby in the near future and would have no hesitation in recommending this venue to others. All of our visitors, including even the midwives, complimented the cottage and setting.

Arrived with my partner and her sister for a two day stay for a nearby wedding. Had a very warm welcome from Stan and Linda. We stayed in Red Squirrel cottage which was very clean and comfortable. The cottage is equipped with all you need for a self catering holiday, if not im sure Stan or Linda would help out ( as Stan did when i realised i'd forgotten my dark socks! Thanks again Stan ) Will definatly stay again if visiting the area.
