This place is very hit or miss. Let me share the bad first, since it was the norm not the exception: 1. Friend makes reservation for 6 but when we get there, restaurant is closed. Obviously, we went elsewhere to eat. No "sorry" when friend called the next day. 2. I have ordered fish (salmon) to take home and prepare. Sometimes, order is ready when I arrive; other times, order is "lost" & I have to come back tomorrow. Takes 20 minutes to get to restaurant from my house. No one ever says "sorry". Finally got a bit better when I learned the owner's name & only placed orders with him. 3. After ordering 5 lbs salmon (unthawed if frozen or when in season, fresh) every other month for an entire year, I arrive to pick up my order to find they have let it thaw 99%. After I question this, I am assured by owner Mike (up to this point, the only apparently responsible person) that "there are still ice crystals, so it will be fine." Trust me, it was not OK. Total waste of money. That was the last time I went to Fish. 4. Friend orders cooked lobster for New Year's gathering. Lobster is watery mush. Last time friend ordered from Fish.
Perhaps if you go & eat there, on a night they take reservations and are actually open when you arrive, you will have a completely different experience. While the decor is very downscale, they appear to have a quality product but they just don't seem to care much about the customer/diner. For a period of time, I felt Mike was the most responsible & responsive of a group of clearly uninterested, uncommunicative, irresponsible "buddies" employed there -- that's the atmosphere conveyed: a group of buddies hanging out, talking, while you wait to be noticed or served. After trying for two years to work with them (& I was the only one making the compromises), I realized life is too short to work that hard to get some decent fish from people who act like you're lucky they couldn't care less.
