“Great food and fantastic views!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2012

We had a terrific meal at Balata. We got a voucher from Travelzoo for a 4-course dinner for $29, and it was worth every penny. The highlight of the meal was the veal medallions with homemade noodles - awesome! Great presentation, tasty dishes, and a very pleasant atmosphere.

“awesome views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2012

I love, love to come here in the summer and just sit and relax and enjoy a glass of wine while soaking in the views. The service has always been pleasant and quick. The food is good not great. Don't come expecting a gourmet meal and u will be very happy with the experience.

“Sit outside in the summer and enjoy the food and view”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2012

We went because Balata (Balata at the Sonnenalp Glof Club, Singletree, tel. 970-477-5353 | www.sonnenalp.com) was offering a $26 two-course meal. Steve Topple (executive chef of the Sonnenalp restaurants) is very good and we liked the food and service (by a server named Kara) very much. But we will never go back for a dinner inside. The bar and the restaurant are really the same room and it was outrageously noisy. We each had a 2-course meal and we took food home. We had one "Goat Cheese Tart, Puff Pastry filled with Local Goat Cheese, topped with Beets, Arugula Salad and Port Wine Reduction" (regularly $12) and one "Steamed Prince Edward Island Mussels Spicy Italian Sausage, Roasted Garlic, Tomatoes and Parsley in a White Wine Broth" (regularly priced $11). Both were very good. The broth with the mussels was particularly good. For our mains we had one "Wagyu Flank Steak (which is Australian Kobe beef), Smashed Potato, Smoked Black Beans, Grilled Asparagus and House Made Steak Sauce" (regularly $27) and one "Colorado Lamb Loin, Curried Cauliflower Puree and Mint Chimichurri" (regularly $27). The flank steak was good but it was flank steak (by any other name, etc.) Dimitri liked the steak sauce; Audre wasn't impressed. The lamb was good and Dimitri really liked the cauliflower puree (that had curry in it). Both meats were cooked the way we asked for them. For dessert we ordered one Bread Pudding ($8). It wasn't good and we ate a couple of bites only. We also had coffee because the bar was quieting down and we wanted to talk with our friends. If we go back it would be for lunch in the summer on the deck with the beautiful view.

“Great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2012

Came in to meet some friends for a drink and maybe appetizers before heading to dinner at another restuarnt but after taking a look at their menu, we stayed for dinner. There were plenty of choices on the menu, they offered a dinner menu, pub menu and a dinner special menu which was the best value and options I've seen in the valley. The portion sizes were great for the price and we found tons of great wines in mid range prices from $40-$60. The food wasn't overly fancy, the service not pretentious and just felt like a really comfortable neighborhood restaurant. Overall a great expeirience. I would recommend to anyone over any restauarnt in Edwards!

“quantity but not quality”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2011

The views are fabulous so in beautiful weather it is a wonderful place to eat. Last night in the early snowfall, we were not there for the views! The food is just average but the quantities are huge, more than any of us could consume, so if you want lots of mediocre food, this restaurant is a great choice. The service was good, the wine list, for a decent pinot noir at least, is limited to pretty expensive bottles, in comparison to the food. We had a great evening with terrific friends but the restaurant is just average and there is much better food nearby in Edwards.
