“Hampton Inn, Durango, CO”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

A very nice hotel, exceptionally clean, welcoming staff, and very comfortable room. For the price - $200 approx including tax, for a standard two queen room, the hotel could offer in it's breakfast, fresh eggs and a higher quality of sausage. Instead, it was an offering of powdered eggs and greasy sausage. Hopefully this will change!

This met our expectations for a Hampton Inn. It was clean, the service was friendly, competent, and better than I was expecting. For Durango this was just a landing spot for the area and it served us well. The breakfast was clean and well done.

The rooms were very clean. I liked the fresh decor. The price was quite high. Close to downtown. I appreciated the laundry services. Breakfast was lacking. The first day, the scrambled eggs were more like pellets and seemed reconstituted. Gluten-free bread or baked goods and an alternate milk, like almond or coconut, would be very appreciated.

I have never had a bad experience at a Hampton inn and this one was just like the rest. Great linens and towels and clean comfortable room. At the end of town going towards silverton which was a blessing because of the motorcycle event over labor day. The Noise on main st was awful. We actually switched hotels for the strater because of noise and very old and awful hotel.

I'm not typically a "feelings" kind of guy, but honestly walking in to my room and seeing the design, the furniture, and how clean the rooms were made me think "This place is really nice - this organization values my being here".

The rooms are beautifully decorated, well maintained, and absolutely spotless. The staff at the desk and in the breakfast area have been pleasant and professional.

Without a question I would stay here again with family on vacation or (hopefully) on another business trip for this client.

Green Features: Easy recycling in the room makes sense and worked well for me.

The hotel is relatively new, the staff is friendly. Better continental breakfast than some hotels. The rooms are normal size, no microwave but there is small fridge. I felt it was expensive for what you got a room with two queen beds. Around $200 a night for a nothing special hotel, that is the AAA rate.

Green Features: Excellent, you can reuse towels if you want. The garbage can is divided for recycling

Patty W. thank you so much for your review of our hotel. We are delighted that your overall experience with us was very positive. We are proud of the full renovations made to our hotel this past winter, and truly value our quality staff that consistently provides a positive customer service experience.

As for the value and price, one must compare Apple’s to Apple’s and realize that we provide above and beyond the service of other hotels in the area. We have the fastest internet connection, free quality breakfast, free parking and the free trolley to access Historic Downtown Durango. You traveled to Durango during the peak of our summer season in which most of the quality hotels were fully occupied. If comparing prices to the other hotels in our area at the peak travel period you would have found that we truly were indeed offering a good value. If you are concerned about room rates, it is suggested to travel during the off peak times and shoulder seasons. I think you would find the rates more attractive and the town very pleasant to visit during those times.

Again thank you for joining us as a guest and we look forward to your return during a less busy time.

Hampton Inns are our preferred place to stay when we are on the road and during our most recent trip into CO and NM we stayed in four. One can normally count on them to be comfortable and clean, but we experienced more variation during this trip than ever before. The Durango hotel was clearly superior on several counts. First, the room looked upscale with better quality and better styled furnishings. It stood in contrast to the older, cheaper, decor of other Hampton Inns on the trip which were filled with dated SW design cliches. Second, the clerks in Durango were engaging in a way one finds in more upcale hotels and resorts with polished service. They smiled and were welcoming as soon as they spotted us coming to the desk and when we would return from an outing they would welcome us back. In other places it was evident management had failed in some basic training and check-in was perfunctory. They got the job done, but without any heart.

Durango was the cleanest as well and there weren't signs of neglect. Hall carpets were attractive and colorful and in good condition. Other inns had dark, badly aged ones. In Colorado Springs the late afternoon sun lit up a thick layer of dust on the bed bench rails while in Taos one of two queen beds had a fitted bottom sheet that did not even reach the corners on one side much less cover more than an inch of the mattress side.

Finally, we had a pleasant close up mountain view on the back side in Durango. While in Santa Fe the choice of views was between the back doors of an aged strip mall or an even more aged trailer court.

All total we have stayed in more than 20 different Hampton Inns in at least six different states. The Durango location ranks among the top three.
