Hi everyone, I am writing to clear up any confusion about Tamarron. We stayed at a privately rented condo at Tamarron last summer and loved it!
Tamarron is a condo complex located 17 miles north of Durango and 8 miles south of the Purgatory/Durango Mtn Resort ski area.
It's a beautiful property with a main lodge made and three clusters of outlying condos. Most of these units are individually owned, although some units are owned by DMR, the ski area company that runs the rental program. Some owners rent privately, others have their units in the rental pool, and some do both.
The main lodge has studio-hotel room size units and some larger loft units as well. The lodge also has a large indoor outdoor pool, two jacuzzis, a nice fitness room, and great steam room/locker room facilities. They also have spa services available on site. the whole pool/spa area was renovated recently and if really nice.
there is a small deli that is open in summer and winter for breakfast and lunch, and also a nice dinner place, the Hamilton Chop house.
Tamarron is surrounded by an exclusive private development called the Glacier Club. The golf course and tennis courts are owned by the GC so only members can play. A few Tamarron owners are members of the GC, so if you stay in their units, you can play golf. You can also make reservations through DMR and ask for a " stay and play" package. They will put you in a unit with a membership. There is also a nice public course at Dalton Ranch, about 12 miles down the hill toward town.
The advantages to Tamarron are many. The location is mid-way between Durango and the ski area. The elevation is a nice 7,000 or so feet, so it's cooler than town in the summer. In the winter, you can stay at Tamarron and take the free ski shuttle. Generally speaking, it's less expensive at Tamarron than the ski area.
You can catch the train at nearby Rockwood Station, or take a canoe out on Haviland Lake, right up the road. The outlying clusters of condos have larger units and are generally quieter than the main lodge.
I hope that this helps clear up any confusion about Tamarron as there have been a number of changes in recent years. Overall I think you will be pleased if you stay there.
