We chose Durango to have a relaxing day by the Animas River and the outdoor pool at the Doubletree, but... there is not an outdoor swimming pool at this hotel!
As I confronted both the Front Desk and the Concierge with a print screen of their website where "heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool" are announced, stating that the outdoor pool had been the main reason for choosing their hotel, they apologized and spoke themselves of "overpromise and underdeliver", but didn't even offer the slightest compensation for this error. Yes, they would adapt their website....
The hotel is ideally situated on the Animas River and within walking distance of Durango's Historic District.
Be certain to choose a Riverview rrom in order to avoid looking on a huge parking lot. But if you have a groundfloor Riverview-room (as we had), you have the advantage of a little terrace with direct river access, but you can't leave your terrace door open, since the pathway along the river gives direct access to the room.
The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious. But breakfast plates and used paper towels remained a whole day on the floor of our corridor (reduced personnel during weekends???).
No experience with breakfast at the hotel (we chose the - not so - French Bakery Jean-Pierre in Main Street).
We had dinner on our first evening at the terrace of the hotel. Our table was filthy and had to be thoroughly cleaned first. Poor lighting of the terrace in the evening. The quality of food (salmon trout and grilled salmon with a delicious mushroom risotto) and wines was perfect, but service was slow and rather chaotic.
