“A great place to stay in Durango”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

This hotel was great and it's very convenient. It's not too far from the airport and close to town. It blends in with the surrounding area and the view of the river and mountains from the back is beautiful. The decor is spectacular and the rooms are updated and plush. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a room on the back so you can sit on the balcony and listen to the river.

We go to Durango often to ski. We love this hotel. Clean and cozy. You can walk to downtown and there is a grocery store next door so you or your children can walk over and get drinks and snacks. We walk to downtown every night for dinner and entertainment. Ask for a river view. If not available the city view is great.

This hotel totally met our family's needs! After a long day on the road, we were greeted with warm cookies and a spacious, comfortable room overlooking the river. The room was quiet and we had a great night's sleep. The breakfast buffet was spectacular and included a variety of made-to-order sandwiches in addition to the usual breakfast buffet fare. We will certainly seek out this hotel the next time we are traveling through Durango.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view.

We have 2 small kiddos and decided to stay to visit the Polar Express train in Durango for the weekend in December. After looking through hotels, we chose this one and were so glad that we did. It was so close to the train station and so close to downtown Durango, without being right in the town. The river behind the hotel was perfect for an afternoon walk, and the pool and restaurant made our t

Our family drove to Durango from New Mexico. The Hotel setting was outstanding, right on the Animas river with walking trails, numerous restaurants and shops within walking distance. The room was very clean, plush towels and beds were very comfortable--when not in your own. The Staff was personable, pleasant and helpful. The lobby has a beautiful, warm atmosphere. We most certainly would stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Get a river view on lower level for easy access to trail.

My wife and I enjoyed staying at this Durango hotel. Very clean and very quiet. We had booked the cheaper "city view" side, and when we arrived, I thought the traffic noise from the busy street out front might bother me. But the room was quiet as well as comfortable. We were traveling with our small dog and it was a pleasure to walk her on the back side of the hotel on the Animas River trail. And the historic downtown and RR are within walking distance. Durango has a great downtown with lots of shops and restaurants!

The room was clean and comfortable and the ambience of the hotel, with its oak trim and doors, very welcoming. It's great for families because you are a short walk from the Historic Downtown, you can walk out the back door right onto the paved trail along the river. Once on the trail, turn left and you will soon arrive at a well-appointed park with plenty of stuff for children to play on; turn right, and you will soon be at the museum.

The breakfast buffet is one of the best, and most well-stocked and appointed I have ever had. I had an omelet made for me while I waited and it was superb! I live on a farm, they claim their eggs are farm fresh, and I can tell you: they are!

There's an Alberton's next door to shop at if you want to save money and have some snacks on hand -- there are no refridgerators in the room, but they will bring one up to you free of charge if you ask.

The only negative is that my door key stopped working. The woman at the desk accused me of holding it next to my phone. We hired a nanny for my child (I was here on business) and HER key didn't work. They had just given it to her and she held it in her hand the whole way to the room. We went back downstairs and the woman at the desk accused her, too, of holding is next to her phone. I explained that was not possible and she actually argued with me about it. It wasn't enough to affect my evaluation of the hotel, but it was a negative I could have done without. That said, I will be back and I would recommend this as an excellent hotel for families.
