“Great family vacation spot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2011

We recently stayed at the Durango Doubletree with our three kids and loved it.

It's right on the river with most rooms facing the water and trees. We requested a ground floor room and they happily took care of us. The girl working the reception desk could not have been any nicer and gave us 5 fresh baked chocolate chip cookies at check in. The room was very nice and good sized with modern amenities. The pool was indoors and a bit small with a nice jacuzzi. In the pool area, there was a huge flat screen TV where you could sit in the jacuzzi, watch sports and sip a local beer from the bar at the same time.

It's centrally located, has a nice cafe with a great happy hour with live entertainment during the summer months.

We stayed an extra night because we had such a great time river rafting and checking out the town. Complimentary coffee in the lobby in the AM with a decent workout room, this place has it all.

Highly recommended for anyone traveling through the area.

Had a river view room. Great for sleeping. Large room with comfortable beds. Balcony in room with table & chairs was very nice to relax at. Perfect location for walking into town.

Good location on the edge of town overlooking the river but within walking distance of Main Street with its bars and restaurants. Our room (330) overlooked the river and was a good size with comfortable 4'6" twin beds. We did not use the restaurant. Generally pleased with the hotel although the receptionist didn't seem to know what was going on in the town that evening.

The hotel was very nice. The staff was friendly. The location ideal. The rooms were large, clean, and comfortable. Our room overlooked the river, which was nice. The patio doors closed so we couldn't hear the outside world, which was very nice at night. When checking in ask where the closest elevator is, the hotel is quite large and spread out, so it's very easy to haul your suitcases for a long time. I had a very nice stay however it is not special enough to charge $250+ a night.

The reviews about the room sizes are dead on. It would be a great hotel with updates. The pool and the bathrooms had a nice update but the remainder of the hotel was sad and dated. They have one of the few placecs where you can sit riverside for dinner/lunch and it was underutilized. A great bewpub would do wonders here!
The hotel was full when we arrived and we were not able to get a riverside view. We tried the Sunday buffet and were saddly disappointed. Not worth the money. All in all - not a bad place, staff was excelent and likely the best in the area. I really wish it would have been updated accomodations throughout the hotel.

We stayed here in late June. Great location, a very short walk to downtown. Very dog friendly. The rooms seem a bit older, older tv and furnishings, but very clean. The bathrooms were all remodeled. We had a river view room, RIGHT on the river. Very convenient for the dog. Sliding glass door to get the dog out to the grassy area and river walk pathway. People were friendly. Enjoyed the breakfast at the hotel. The fitness room was small. Only two treadmills, but the river walk outside does goes almost the length of the town!

A beautifully decorated hotel, right on the Animas River, with a friendly, efficient staff. Since it is only two blocks from the main attraction, the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge RR, you can save $7/per day parking fees.

Our room was on the river side of the hotel, with a small balcony and a close view of the Animas, where we had a nice breakfast each morning. Train noise, which would not be a problem for us, was not an issue.

The hotel bar was quite warm and uncomfortable and didn't have the most friendly bartender. However, we found many other comfortable watering holes in town, again within walking distance.

Our beds were extremely comfortable and the central air conditioning did not have that annoying, in room, air conditioning sound that keeps me awake. When we requested a refrigerator, it was in the room in ten minutes with no extra charge.

Overall, we would stay here again.
