“Run Down But Only a Little Scary”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 days ago NEW

We got two rooms here for a party of 4. They are dated, smell kind of funny, and are in need of some work. There aren't really any "views" to speak of, even though the hotel's site makes it seem like there are.
The trolley is a very short walk away, so that's nice.
Dog friendly, which is great.
All in all, it's a fine place to stay if you're not going to hang out the whole time in your room.

We were relieved and overjoyed that the hotel manager woke up at 3:15am to accommodate our unexpectedly delayed arrival. The staff was friendly and the room was clean and much more spacious than we expected. We typically stay at the doubletree Hilton, but he Iron Horse will be our first choice from now on.

Price was good for our motorcycle group but the rooms could use some updating. The person at the desk did act like she was on something and breakfast was lacking. We sat around outside the rooms and played music and sang with some other guest so i would have given a 4 star but when we pulled through the center of the motel it looked like people were actually living there instead of vacationing.

Room Tip: Get the ones facing the narrow gauge rail road on east side they seemed to be all tourist.

Very pleasant staff. TV, micro-wave, refrigerator. Very pet friendly hotel. Dogs everywhere. Unfortunately, if you have pets you must stay in an un-renovated room. Dirty worn carpet. The bed that sucks all into the middle. The hot water was just a trickle; not enough pressure to rinse a razor. Shaved in cold water (just like the field). It's a loft type room with one air unit downstairs. Had to freeze downstairs just to make the upstairs bearably cool. Two ice machines--both out of order. Wi-fi in the lobby only! All this for $119.00!

Iron Horse is a quiet little out of the way place right next to the historic Steam powered train that runs from Durango to Silverton. If you stay here you must get the deluxe track side room. Or don't stay! This gives you a tiny 2 story condo, sort of. Upstairs is a queen bed...fantastic super private view of the mountains. Heard coyote crying in the night and layed on picnic table under the stairs. This location a little bit outside of main part of Durango so stars in all their glory are possible. There's a TV upstairs and down and a working fireplace. Downstairs there's a for and microwave. Upstairs bedroom is hot, but with window open not too bad if your not picky. Downstairs nice and cool and big comfy king bed with nice linens. Nice pool but didn't get in.
Draw backs... Upstairs hot, bathroom very motel 6 like. Bath towels scratchy and cheap.
Nothing fancy at all. This place is LOCATION!!! And view!!
If you need clean, quiet, stand outside and wave at the train, wildlife this is it.
If you want luxury this is 2 star.
Otherwise I give it a 4.

We recently stayed here while working on a job in the area. The only problem we had was there was no wi-if. My husband has to have Internet for the job. Other than that, it was a nice place to stay. Loved being close to the train tracks

Old and run down. Mattresses are horrible. Carpet very worn. Rooms have a great layout with a loft bedroom plus a double bed downstairs an the location is great due to the Durango Silverton Railroad but the property needs a lot of investment to bring it back to it's glory days.
