“great location, good hotel”

We were in Durango to take the excursion train and the Holiday Inn was great for that. It's located within an easy walking distance to the train and all the main downtown restaurants. It's an older style hotel with outside corridors and no breakfast, but has a restaurant on site. The beds were comfortable and the towels were very soft. We didn't use the restaurant, pool or any other amenity, We just parked our car and walked to the things we wanted to do downtown. It's a good hotel for that. I thought it was a bit pricy, but I think all Durango hotels are a bit high.

“Not that great and not worth the money”

I paid an extra $5-$7 each for 2 river view rooms. The first thing we noticed that the place was run down. The beds litterly sagged in the middle and the bedding was obviously old. (but clean eno). The carpet was old and worn. Most definately not
worth the $160+ that each room cost. One of the real pissers was that river view that I paid extra for was blocked by a solid wall of buses, vans and boats that were parked parallel to the river.
The place was clean enough but well worn. There was no continental breakfast and I was informed that they provide a restruant where you can pay for a meal. I would recomend that you go to any other hotel/motel. Like everything else in this town, it's simply a vacationer's rip-off.

“Great Place to see the Fireworks!”

Holiday Inn Durango

Aug 1, 2008

The room is nothing special but the hotel is right on the river below the hill they shoot the fireworks off on the Fourth of July and that was awesome. We asked for a room with a river view but upon arrival we were told AAA never forwards info to hotels so not possible. Downtown was a short 5 minute walk so easy access to train depot and shops. Having Applebee's connected to the hotel is also nice for easy access without having to drive anywhere.

“Pluses and Minues compared to the adjacent Double Tree”

Holiday Inn Durango

Menlo Park, CA
Jul 28, 2008

During our recent trip we stayed in both the Double Tree, and the Holiday Inn. We had river front rooms at both locations. Both hotels are walking distance to the train and downtown. Both have indoor swmming pools the kids enjoyed.

From a river point of view, the Double Tree is superior in that you have a deck and you can keep the sliding glass door open all night to listen to the river. On the other hand, the Holiday Inn room has no deck, and the windows cannot be opened to the outside; we could only enjoy listening to the river in the morning with the front door open. No deck, no windows that open and the Holiday's slightly smaller room, is why the Double Tree commands a $90 a night premium over the Holiday Inn for the same river view.

Food wise we grew tired of the never changing Double Tree buffet. Our kids demanded that we eat dinner at Applebee’s, located on the site (and free for kids), so we had two happy campers that night and breakfast.

My two kids preferred playing games on the Double Tree's two PCs over sharing the one in the Holiday Inn lobby. Everyone liked the Double Tree's *warm* and gooey chocolate chip cookies -- the best.

The Holiday Inn's "free coffee" is superior to that of the Double Tree. But true coffee addicts are advised to shun both, and head directly to the Durango Coffee Company on Main Street. The only decent coffee we found in town.

“Great hotel stay!”

Holiday Inn Durango

Lakewood, CO
Jul 10, 2008

Our family of 5 stayed at this hotel recently. This hotel was great for our family with all it had to offer (pool, kids eat free at Applebees, workout room, etc). The hotel is within walking distance to main street Durango, plenty of restaurants and the train. There is also a very nice path that goes along the river right behind the hotel. We had a poolside room, which was nice because it opened up towards the courtyard and was very quiet. Even though this is an "older style" hotel with rooms that open up to the outside, the hotel is very nice and doesn't have an old or cheap feel to it at all.
