We spent only one night in Durango for a train outing and didn't spend much time in our room, which was probably just as well.
This hotel is one of the older types of Holiday Inns, more like a motor inn than a hotel. Our room was on the outside, with a door that faced the parking lot so I was a bit nervous sleeping there that night, but we encountered no problems on that front. I did, however, move something heavy in front of the door before we went to sleep j.i.c. On the plus side, we had a great view of the mountains from our front door in the morning.
Oddly enough, our door's safety latch somehow flipped itself when we'd left our room earlier so we were unable to reenter our room when we got back. Fortunately, the maintenance fellow immediately sprang to our aid and worked on the door while we went to Applebee's next door for some dinner. He ended up having to saw through the latch and install a new one, but he was done and gone by the time we finished dinner.
The room itself was just okay but perhaps a bit overpriced. Not too small, beds okay, Internet and shower worked fine. We went in the winter, but in the summer, I'm sure you could easily walk to the train depot.
Recommended with reservations. You can probably find something better though perhaps not cheaper.
