“Great Location”

Holiday Inn Durango

May 8, 2008

The best thing about this hotel was the location - walking distance to some great restaurants on Main Ave. The room was clean although a friend commented on his room having a smoky smell. The other downside was mattress: I felt I was gonna slide off at times. Still glad we stayed there though. It was nice to have the view of the Amimas river behind the parking lot.

We spent only one night in Durango for a train outing and didn't spend much time in our room, which was probably just as well.

This hotel is one of the older types of Holiday Inns, more like a motor inn than a hotel. Our room was on the outside, with a door that faced the parking lot so I was a bit nervous sleeping there that night, but we encountered no problems on that front. I did, however, move something heavy in front of the door before we went to sleep j.i.c. On the plus side, we had a great view of the mountains from our front door in the morning.

Oddly enough, our door's safety latch somehow flipped itself when we'd left our room earlier so we were unable to reenter our room when we got back. Fortunately, the maintenance fellow immediately sprang to our aid and worked on the door while we went to Applebee's next door for some dinner. He ended up having to saw through the latch and install a new one, but he was done and gone by the time we finished dinner.

The room itself was just okay but perhaps a bit overpriced. Not too small, beds okay, Internet and shower worked fine. We went in the winter, but in the summer, I'm sure you could easily walk to the train depot.

Recommended with reservations. You can probably find something better though perhaps not cheaper.

We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel room was exceptionally clean and updated in the 2000's. Really, the furnishings were not much different than the Double Tree which I stayed on my previous visit. Best value for the $. They even had a pillow menu with down pillows, the beds were very comfortable, big tv, clean work out room with an indoor pool and jacuzzi. Just a 2 minute walk from Main Street as well. Ask for a room away from the renovations (as they are renovating half the hotel rooms now).

Close to historic main street which is nice. For the price charged, I was dissappointed there was no continnental breakfast; we were told we could eat at Applebee's next door however, they did not provide a breakfast voucher; it came out of your own pocket. The heating/air system is very old, fan under window which required fan blowing all night which made the room hot or cold and dried out skin, nose, etc. Dissappointed in Holiday Inn.

The room was a normal old motel room. Clean, neat. Breakfast was OK. The reason for the low rating is the price. We stayed at an incredible B&B (Apple Orchard Inn) the next night for not much more $, probably less if you take breakfast into account. I feel as though I were somewhat taken. I guess you're paying for the convenience to the train.
