“Good bargain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2012

Clean facilities, good bargain, great location. There's an Applebee's in the hotel for meals.

Access to the second floor is through a set of doors, which also houses the ice machines, soda machines and the laundry room. But when you enter the doors the smell of ‘wet cat’ (or ‘dead wet cat’) hits you in the face – not just a little, but enough to make you gag.
Quality of the room was well below expectations; claustrophobic-size bathroom and noisy. Tried to book a king-size on the river-side of the motel and was told they only have one king-size on the river and it was already booked. Only one king-size on the river??
I read other reviews and most were positive; unfortunately we had a poor experience and won’t be back.

Room Tip: If you stay at this place, be specific about location; not on the parking lot side (4:00 AM some guy...

Had previously stayed here 3 or 4 times when it was a part of the Holiday Inn chain so wasn't sure how it would be under its new ownership. I shouldn't have worried - we were warmly welcomed, checked in, given our room at 13:00 and the service throughout our stay was efficient and friendly.

The location of this motel has always attracted us - the rear rooms overlook the Animas river and the main shopping area - including numerous excellent restaurants, is a short walk away. And if they don't appeal a very popular Applebees forms a part of the motel.

Will certainly stay here again

Room Tip: Rooms at the back overlook the river.

..This hotel is very handy - within 4 blocks of downtown area.. Have stayed here numerous times, and nevery have a problem. The room was clean - big - 2 double beds - great bathroom.. The staff was very nice and helpful. Everything worked out great again. The indoor pool is an added plus especially for kids. We even got an early check-in.

The hotel was packed last weekend, and there was no noise at all.

Only problem is "Applebee's" next door... The service in the morning is horrible. We had to walk out. The hotel doesn't have Continental Breakfast because the restaurant is next door. That's unfortunate.... This hotel used to be a Holiday Inn Express, and Applebee's used to allow "kids eat free", but not now...

I recommend this hotel whenever visiting Durango. Just be carefule of Applebee's....

Room Tip: pool view rooms are cheaper than the "river view".

My friend and I planned a last minute trip to Durango last weekend. When looking into it, we found out that it happened to be the weekend of the Durango Snow Down Festival...and suddenly, we were having a hard time finding accomodations. I stumbled across this hotel while looking at TripAdvisor, and decided to give it a try...what a great idea THAT turned out to be! I pre-paid for the room, so I got an amazing price. The hotel is LOCATED supremely, on the river, across from the train station (free trolley rides up and down Main St.), across the street from a Grocery Store, and it was CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN!! The beds are comfortable, the shower is awesome, and even the towels were wonderful! Indoor pool and hot tub, and there is an Applebees onsite for breakfast or a late night snack! Super pleased with this place, and would book there again without hesitation!

Room Tip: Applebees has a $3 late night menu...try the Sliders...a full plate of food for $3! And it was deli...

We had a river view room. The light at night was very bright and the noise from other visitors was disturbing. The room was clean; however, we had to call for our room to be cleaned after 3 pm. We had been away from our room for several hours and expected it to be cleaned when we returned. I had to call from the front desk phone to get someone to come check me out.

Room Tip: You might want to choose a pool side room. It might be quieter.

The Doubletree was sold out so I booked a room for one night between Christmas and New Year's Eve. I should have known when I called to confirm and "Sara" the manager was quite curt and unfriendly that it going to be a bad experience. The room was very small witth an odor I can't really describe. The biggest issue was the noise. Parking is right up against the doors to the rooms. It was a long miserable night.
