“Nothing fancy but a good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2011

The property needs some updating but it is within walking distance to shopping, railroad, and dining.

Room Tip: The room for 5 people that we got was very small. For just a little more money we got a larger room...

We recently spent 2 nights here and the location was central to the "tourist" areas about a block from the train station. The service was average at best though they did have an adequate breakfast bar and a good manager's welcome each night. The A/C was a noisy wall mount unit which was hard to keep a constant room temp with.

We had reservations for 2 nights but liked the hotel so much we stayed 5 nights instead. The hotel is located downtown and convenient to everything. The indoor pool was great, very clean and pretty area, plus the hotel offered free drinks for happy hour and free breakfast which was always good, and not just the typical cold muffins either. Hot biscuits, sausage gravy, donuts, boiled eggs, waffles, yogurt, several kinds of fruit- and the coffee was always good. The hotel also had 2 free washers and dryers, which we took advantage of. The staff was always very friendly and helpful. The bathroom was your typical small bath. The room had a microwave and a small refrigerator and was comfortable. I think the price was comperable to other hotels in the downtown area. We'll stay in this hotel again.

Aaa discount reduced the outrageous price, but if you don't care about an inside pool, with screaming kids. Location in relationship to town was good. Nothing else worth saying. I was disappointed in the size of the room. A shower provided a leaky mess wet floor, yuk

Room Tip: Don't do first floor, basement

I had booked rooms at the Durango Lodge a block away, but when we got there, they had no record of it. Reception apologized and called to see if the Best Western Rio Grande had vacancies. It cost a little more than the Durango Lodge, but wow, was I ever happy when we got into our room. Great beds, nice decor, pool, hot tub....and still within easy walking distance of the train station. We stayed 2 nights and I'm so glad we ended up here. I slept like a baby both nights. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

The hotel is not as new as some in the area, but the location is excellent for visiting downtown Durango and riding the Durango Silverton Railroad. The place is on a quiet backstreet so it doesn't get as much noise as some places. The hotel is kept up oretty well and I really enjoyed our room with a jacuzzi tub after a day of walking around. The beds were a little softer than many of the newer hotels and I really appreciated that. The breakfast is well stocked with a variety of foods for every taste. They even have a happy hour in the evening with beverages and a few snacks as a bonus. We didn't use the pool or hottub but they are convienently located in the interior courtyard. It can get a little noisy if people are in the pool and you ar in a room that faces the pool. But, the pool closes at 9:00 pm so the noise doesn't last late. They have other rooms further away if that is important. Overall, I liked the location, the amenities and the hotel and would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Upper floor, with one of the balconies
