“Nice Suprise”

Best Western Mountain Shadows

Aug 16, 2007

Convenient hotel less than 5 minutes from train and lively town of Durango. Quiet location. Excellent continental breakfast. Staff very nice and easy to work with. Stayed two nights, first night had a king size bed, sofa, micro, frig, coffee maker, amenities, large room...next night had two queen beds, sofa, bathroom not guite as modern as first room but still adequate. For a lower cost alternative to the hotels within walking distance from the train this hotel is great.

“Great place to stay!”

Best Western Mountain Shadows

Jun 23, 2007

This is a great hotel for families. The pool area is great, close to the rooms but in a separate building so no noise bothers people in the room. The room was clean, bed very comfortable. Our room had a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, double sink, etc.

This hotel has a great continental breakfast; wide choice of lots of different juices, cereals, a waffle maker, coffees, oatmeal, etc. The breakfast room is open and warm.

The hotel is the type where the doors all open out to the parking lot. Two-story hotel. It is right on the main highway, about 2 miles outside of the main "touristy" area of Durango. Not within walking distance but a short drive and not a bad place to stay at all. There is a supermarket right across the street.

I would definitely stay here again. Friendly staff, meet all our requests.

“Unexpectedly lovely room and good amenities”

This is one of the better-value Best Western motels I've stayed at. The woodsy, lodge-style rooms have exceptionally good furnishings, including a writing desk that's handy for business travelers, and spacious bathrooms. Admittedly, there were not enough electrical outlets for two people traveling on business, but this was really the only drawback to the rooms. The glass-domed heated pool looked odd but was comfortable. The coin-op guest laundry came in handy, as did the strong and steady wi-fi Internet access. The breakfast was a bit disappointing, though it did have make-your-own waffles, a selection of cereals and milk and juices to drink. The front desk staff were efficient and helpful. The only thing that would make me consider staying somewhere else is the driving distance between the motel and downtown. Other than that, we were very happy with our stay!

“Basic Best Western”

Best Western Mountain Shadows

Just your basic hotel. Designed more for a business traveler than a tourist. It seemed to be in need of room renovation. There was plenty of room in the room, frig available, and a kitchenette. However, it was very basic. Front desk did not know about bus schedules to go downtown. The main road to downtown is right in front of the hotel and you are about 3 miles away. The price wasn't cheap but maybe for the area. The continental breakfast is your typical Best Western style. The town of Durango was a really neat place to go. Buses/Trollies stop running around 10pm during the week but are extended on the weekend to around 3am. The hotel was more business oriented. There is another one downtown. Next time, I'll suck up the additonal cost and stay there. The town itself is terrific.
